Happy or Right

After teaching Arthur Dent about Deep Thought, Slartibartfast muses:
“ I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied.... What does it matter? Science has achieved some wonderful things of course, but I'd far rather be happy than right any day ... [But I am not,] that's where it all falls down of course.

Which would you prefer?

Being happy is much more fun, but why can't one be happy and right?

I have to agree. happier and occupied is a far more interesting and fun place than all scienced-up and tangled in worry.

I think the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly beyond remote that in a statistically possible universe, given an infinite amount of time, it would never happen.

In my experience, I have learned that even if you do find out what exactly is going on, there is little to nothing you can do about it anyway. Being content where ever I find myself is soooooo much easier. As for the being right bit, that's all a matter of perspective anyway.
