Messages from a rusty halo

Laurie has asked me to make a few posts for the group. She likes my humor! Well, there is no accounting for taste! (thank you, Capt Kirk, Star Trek's The Trouble with Tribbles) and gotcha Laurie! lolol

If there are no complaints, I will post a copy of the Mountain News here on a daily basis. If I make you smile, laff out loud or feel better for just a few minutes, you will have made my day!

Some references will be directed to the guys in VNV, some to CCC and some to the world at large!

Huggies and love to all...The mellowing like fine wine emom

Emom's Mountain News..12/03 The holidays are galloping closer and I still haven't gotten a thing done. I wandered thru the house yesterday just looking at all the stuff I have been given or collected through the years. All the memories attached to each item...The bad and the good. I wouldn't trade the bad memories now for anything. Do I wish they hadn't happened? Oh yeah! But they did happen! Took me a long time to work my way out of reliving the past and recovering from it. I even died this April and made it back! I am one of those people who are not bright enough to stay down when I am down. Oh no, I've always had to struggle to climb back up, stand up and keep going. I've made it guys! I finally made it...! So when things are really hard, get your buns in gear and go for it! If you have one good day, hang on to it! Remember the good and soon the good will out number the bad! I DO know what I am talking about here!

Well guys, every now and then, the emom has a small sermon in her that just has to come out...This is part of the price you pay for reading the News with your coffee...I'm fixing fried biscuits, eggs and bacon this morning...be sure and rinse your plates before you put them in the sink! Broom gets really unhappy when she has to scrub dried eggs off the plate. You guys know where everything is by now so help yourselves. Be welcome and warmed by the fellowship, humor and understanding waiting for you here in my heart and kitchen. There is always room around the table for bunches more when they show up.

One morning, I looked out the window...sort of a weather check. The sun was just coming up. What I saw was a fairy land! We had received a freezing rain over nite. All the trees in a scrubby area were covered with ice! The sun just kissed all the branches with a beautiful warm glow and rainbows sprang to life...Shimmering and dancing, having an early morning party, celebrating life. It was magnificent! Something to hold in the heart...to take out later and enjoy.

Garyjames and Littlejake, who live in Iowa, came through the storms yesterday in OK shape. LJ says he has ice on the ground but he still has power. Best yet, all their kids are in good shape!

It was a grungy day here yesterday, drizzle and rain and windy but temp sat at 60° all day. This morning when I let dogs out, it was 34°. Suns not up yet so I don't know what this day is going to bring...New adventures await I am sure...I can get into more trouble and not even go out the door! lolol...

Thank you all for helping one another and for being so welcoming...If you are a newbie here, all of us will do all we can to help you find your way...You are safe now and among the many who understand...

Huggies to all mine, welcome home and remember the emom loves you.

Emom's Rusty Halo News...12/04 Morning all mine! The emom is finally up, bright eyed and bushy tailed...oops, sorry, that's Broom! Anyway, when I woke this morning and looked out the window, I saw the stars and the last sliver of the moon. The air is crystal clear, cold and crispy! Hard freeze again. Let dogs out/in...the Wrecking Crew did some serious cover diving. They are in prime condition for the Cover Diving division of the K-9 and K-4 1/2's Doggie Olympics! I repeat myself...Don't stand in the line of fire when the Crew is heading for the bed!...I need shin guards in case I forget to stand aside!

BTW, the Over The Fence posted in CCC has now had more than 600 posts in the short time is has been up and running...I hope the News does half as well here...A big Atta Boy for the boss man who set it up... and be sure to check out the Library for the latest updates and info.

I posted a photo of Sam, my mule, just so everybody could see him. He was soooo smart...I bought him for a 3 year old (horse talk) and he wasn't even two. When I first saw him, he was in a dark, nasty old stall with no windows, in a falling down leaky old barn...Never got to see anything or anybody...totally alone. But had already been used for hauling lumber...Sam wasn't very big, maybe 14 hands high. Well, they get Sam out of the stall. I go over and lift his head...and blow in both his nostrils...Sam loaded up with no problem...Trucked him over to Cow Creek. I didn't even have shelter for him the first day...A couple of neighbors came down and built a shelter/shed for him...Wanted to close him in again. I said NO! I made them build a 1/2 wall on the side facing the road so that he could see out.

After a week, I took him out of the fenced area...Sam got away from me...wanted me to chase him down. Nope, the emom doesn't play them games! He ran into the lower field and started to graze. I went inside, grabbed a book, pop and cigs and strolled down to the lower field with the dogs. Sam saw me coming and started towards the other end of the field. I ignored him...walked on the dirt road to a nice shady spot and plopped my buns down. Started to read aloud. Sheer confussion on Sam's face...lol...I was, in his mind, supposed to be chasing him. Nope, not this emom!

Well, I read aloud...Sam slowly edged his way closer...I lit cig, had a sip of pop...Sam would pretend to graze and then check to see if I had moved. Eventually, he was within a foot of me...I still ignored...I just kept talking...dogs were at rest...after a while, I got up and walked back to the trailer...Sam followed me home and I gave him a treat. Now, the moral to this story, if there is one...Learn to trust and be kind...It costs nothing to be kind to one another.

Well, that story got kind of long winded...but it is a true story...

Love and Huggies to all mine...Welcome home...the emom

Emom, I like the story about Sam. The same actually works for kids too!

Would you post the photograph to disease and caretakers group?

Hugs, Emom. Thanks for being here.

07/05/12...Welcome home all of mine...come on in and get comfy. We're down to bacon and toast this morning...Grass cutter brought the feed out for me yesterday and I gave him the eggs. He has two little girls, just barely into their teens...a single father trying to raise two girls. A hard job in today's world. He is a good man! He also tells me the latest gossip in town...lolol

Wowser! The cost of feed has gone way up and a bag of chips went up 50 cents in a week. I haven't even looked at gas prices...I'm sure they are outrageous too...I can remember when a head of lettuce was like 10 cents...I don't even look at the price anymore...If it is a need and not a want, I just pay the bill and go on.

Let's see, GaryJames has finished all the work on VNV...we have a chat box, private chat, all kinds of contacts can be found in the Library. And slowly, our guys are finding their way to VNV...welcome home all! Ya done good, Boss man...Big huggies to you for all the work.
We all appreciate what you have worked so hard to accomplish.

Lol...I looked down at one of my notes...it says 'wcgale, snow and people in the ditch'...Oh dear, now I've got the giggles cause I've forgotten what I wanted to tell you about it...Broom is no help at all...she wasn't peeking over my shoulder when I wrote it and has no idea what I had in mind...on the floor, laffing at self!

There have been several replies and excellent info posted to Saucybuff's VA Benefits you guys might find helpful. LittleJake has a great idea about how to get help with the VA system...I'm going to work on that and see what can be done. Tcornishs has posted a VNV Memorial Wall Page... Good going, TC! We are all here to listen and to help where we can.

I have some more tales about Sam...he was a clown mule and very gentle with me...Every day, there was a zoo parade to the mail box which was about a half city block from the trailer...Me in the lead followed by 3 dogs, 3 cats, a mule and several chickens. Off we'd go... on a nice day, I would go down into the creek with everybody tagging along...we'd play in the water, the cats would play gotcha with the dogs or vice versa. Once coming back up the bank to cross the road, a vehicle was traveling my direction...I was trying to get critters all on the same side so veh could get thru...Veh stopped...It was the state Game Warden and he was laffing to beat all! Said I couldn't be all bad if I had that many animals. Told the man that I was nutz for having that many critters but that I never learn about some things...Turns out the game warden had been a cop up around Lexington...We stood in the middle of the road and swapped our kind of war stories for a long time. He was a neat guy. Sam listened to the conversation, decided he was bored, bored, bored and wandered off to the lower field for a while. Game Warden went on his way and so did I...I called Sam out of the field and we wandered back to the trailer. Maybe tomorrow I will tell you about the yellow bucket...lolol

KK and the kitties have been house cleaning in the kitchen...lolol Seems like kitties removed all the items from the cupboard over the microwave so KK could scrub the shelves...gotcha! The Garymeister broke his snow shovel yesterday...I don't think I'll comment here...you all just use your own imagination. lolol Gotcha! Boss!

Autumnrain, I love the house in your post. I've always wanted to live in a house like that...to me, it would be a fairy tale come true especially at Christmas time...I love my home but that is my dream.

Huggies to all...The running out of space emom

So you got the Game Warden's attention. Why am I not surprised.

I can image the curses when Gary broke his version of the broom.

Glad that KK is getting the kitties to clean instead of messing up the house.

I just got through moving my daughter. It was difficult but I managed. I was glad there were some strong men around. All that testosterone and muscle. It was a blessing for sure.

Ever gratful Laurie :-)

THINGS I FIND IN MY EMAILS....FROM THE ROTTEN TO THE CORE MARVINll....

You find out interesting things when you have sons, like ...

1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3. A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6. The glass in windows (even double-pan e) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's already too late.

8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9. A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

10. Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4- year old Boy.

11. Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12. Super glue is forever.

13. No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15. VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16. Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17. Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18. You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.

19. Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

20. The fire department in Austin , TX has a 5-minute response time.

21. The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22. It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23. Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24. 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids..

25. 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid

Great truth and wisdom here...Thank you my dear heart Marv from the giggling emom
