cheating, yes-cheating, on pogo
I was just finishing up my bowling badge for this week when I remembered why I quit the league I was on. I thought you all might be interested, so I thought I would share.
Last year I joined a bowling league on Pogo, and really enjoyed the company, but my bowling had gone to hell in a handbasket. I'm pretty consistant, but everytime a tournament came along my bowling was terrible. I tried everything, but couldn't get my scores to equal the ones I had when I wasn't bowling with the league. About 2 months later I found out why.
At least one, if not more, players in the league were using a "cheat" software that effected the other players, insuring their win. I know it's just a game, but I was heart broken that anyone found it necessary to do something like that. It's not like we were playing for real money.
Anyway, I just thought you all would like to know that cheating happens, even in cyber space.
It's just that people do make false accusations like that on Pogo all the time. It seems that every time someone does well, someone else comes up with an accusation of cheating. I've never been accused of it myself, but I've seen it a lot.
And software on a computer that isn't directly hooked up to yours can't directly affect your gameplay. There are cheats, but they affect your own gameplay, not that of other people.
Of course, even that kind of cheating is reason to be upset. But such programs are easily detected, and Pogo does do its best to detect them and eliminate the culprits. I just don't want people to think this is widespread or Pogo's fault, or that every time they lose it "must" be because of a cheat. Pogo is honest, and so are most of the players on it.
I have played Pogo for several years now and the one thing I have always noticed was that one person will get all the good cards several times in a row, then the opponent will get the all the good cards. This holds true for non-card games as well. If you are given bad cards or whatever the game is you playing, it doesn't matter what you do you cannot win.
Now those come directly from Pogo, so there has to be a little bit of influence, coming from somewhere. I am not saying Pogo is cheating but they are controling who gets what cards, dice, dominos or whatever you are playing. Maybe they are just trying to level the playing field for all people, but this happens too often to be just a coincidence. JMHO
I have been accused of cheating just about every time i win at playing canasta and to be quit honest im getting really tired of it. you win and lose some that the way it goes, and people need to grow up and exept it for a change instead of acting like they are still kids, I have never cheated in my life i hate cheaters if i can not win on my own then whats the points of playing anyway? And one more thing if im playing and i have a partener and they have a cheat program how am i to know because i would like to know personally so i can not play with them or let them be my partener?

yes they cheat as well in pool and Pogo saya they are doing something about it , but I have my doubts, because Pogo is all about money not cheating or fixing their site.
Pogo has a lot of influence over the games. Ever wonder why you can play a game and be really good at it, but the minute it is posted as one of the weekly challenges, it takes forever sometimes to win the badge.
I have seen many people get frustrated with the game (whichever one it might be) and then start complaining in chat about how different the game is acting when in challenge mode.
I don't know if it is true or not, but I have heard the rumor that POGO/EA Sports has an interested in at least one of the websites that sells the cheats....that would be a monetary interest. Could be why they do not pursue the people who are accused of using the cheat programs.
I happen to be one of those people with an excessive amount of tokens. Some games just accumulate tokens faster than other games. The reason mine have accumulated so much is that I don't dump them on chances for the various drawings that POGO runs daily, monthly, or quarterly. On the other hand...I could buy out the mini mall and usually do spend a lot there when new items are added. Keeps me out of the real malls!!!
Ah well! Such is life on POGO....cheaters and all.
PS: I don't doubt what you are saying AmethystGal, but I find it hard to believe that a cheat program on a personal PC can affect the game for another player. I have often thought that all those computer players on POGO was just a front for a real person at POGO. Some of those POGO computer players have a mean streak and can make a lot of cutthroat plays in some of the card games.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there ARE programs that can be used to cheat with
Well I do know there is a software you can use when playing poker.. REAL POKER online not play stuff..
Why would anyone pay alot of dough for this software (if there is one for Pogo games) in the first place.. ITS PLAY TOKENS!! The only thing you might get is some real money if you buy those tickets with your tokens..
Speaking of winning real money, do any of you actually KNOW anyone that has won any Jackpots on there.. Ive heard many rumors... just was wondering because I dont know of anyone that has won one...
I hate for my very first post to be contradictory, but cheat programs only affect the computer and player who are using them, not the whole game. While I totally agree that it is unfair to win like that and I am not saying anything about your gaming skills, but it simply isn't true that a program running on one person's computer will affect everything on the whole website of Pogo.
I know people who use them, I have been a Pogo member since before Club Pogo and I also know programmers ( my husband for one) and I asked them about this before I responded.
I am sorry your bowling was bad but you should know that Pogo can and often does change how the games work. When Bowling first came out for example, I bowled on there quite well the same way I did in reality, but it was not long before that simply did not work anymore and I ended up bowling like a southpaw! Pogo changes the games frequently because of the cheat programs.
@FlirtGirl - Yes, I have won a "Jackpot" 4 times - all wallpaper. I have never won a "Prize" (cash or swag) though.
Pkg is correct about one gamer being able to affect another gamer's computer or Pogo's servers. If that could be done, I guarantee that hackers in the Philippines, China, Russia, or elsewhere would be using the same method for much more nefarious reasons than for play tokens. However, it certainly is possible for a cheat program to affect the piece of a Pogo game that is running on their own computer. (I’ve been in I/T since 1975, at times with the duties of a security administrator, at other times with the duties of a hacker doing beta testing before a new software release.)
I know several people who have won instant cash prizes and actually got their checks. I also know or know of, 4 jackpot winners and they also got their checks.
