Why Not... Monterey SKIT!!!

Hey, I live here and am willing to organize a SKIT here....
First let's get a count of how many would like to meet here.
It's beautiful in Monterey in the winter.... We even get sun in January/February most years and in the 50's, 60's degrees, even been known at 70 degrees.

January would be good here for the SKIT soooooooooooo
What kind of food, (coast city for seafood) so I can look for and set up a place. Will be the majority of everyone and availability of restaurants. Shouldn't be a problem to get a great place to eat.

Let's see where this go... it was a great spoken idea TallColdOne!!! You guys can PM me or post on this ....

Will be fun. If more then meal we can arrange a stage play at the college or hit a nightspot in town... or ?????

Count me in, especially if it turns out to be a multiday event and there is some kayaking, diving, surfing, or margaritas by the pool and good company involved.

sure! I love that area of California...well, I actually love just about alll areas of California.

Get together (via PMs) w/tallcoldone and jd...figure out a good time and date to meet up..then post away...there's ton's 'o stuff to do there if folks don't want to kayak or scuba...Aquarium, golf...why not meet at the Steinbeck museum in Salinas? (My daughter's Lang.Arts class was just assigned "Cannery Row")...hunt down Clint Eastwood?

Sounds like enough stuff for a two dayer event for sure. We could have certain times to all meet up - like dinner or something and then where to meet for organized activities (kayaking, stalking Eastwood, museum, etc).

If we have a sign in board type thing at a central location (where most outa towners are staying, or the beach...) we could come and go as we please and still be available for drop-ins joining us.

Call me stubborn, but I have this idea that I want to camp on the beach somewhere near kayaking... do you know if that is that allowed?

I forgot to mention that there is another group (50+ Singles?) talking about Monterey. We could put out the invite to out-of-staters, too.

Really, TCO? I didn't see that....think any 50+ 'singles' group from anywhere should have an invite....well, maybe not 'nudie-naturalists'! Depending on weather, there could be serious nippage going on...that could be a disaster!

Anywho....

You really want to camp?...on the beach?...in JANUARY?! wow, you are one brave, tough cookie!
I think its mating season for the Elephant Seals about then. I'd be afraid that some near-sighted bull would think my tent was "his last great love, his better half"!

There's camping both north and south of Monterey, also some east over in Laguna Seca, but that's not on the beach. There are some tasty campsites near Big Sur. There are a couple of places south of Santa Cruz that aren't too far.

January on the California Coast? Is it a whole lot different from April on the California Coast? I like the idea of camping. We can all huddle together for warmth.

Apologies, Adaisy! Don't think we meant to 'take over' your SKIT idea! Its nice to know that someone is in that area and can help us 'firm up' our plans....know that the Monterey thought has been floating around here for a couple of weeks.

It would be much appreciated if you could do some of the research...inexpensive places to stay, list things or events to do, etc.

Put out a couple of dates and places to meet up for a vote.

Its nice to have something post-holiday to look forward to!

Seafood of course....you're in Monterey, what else would it be? The acquarium is amazing, Cannery Row is beautiful, Carmel and Ocean Avenue is so quaint, downtown Monterey is walking distance from the Wharf....several nice hotels and lots of restaurants, shops, club, etc. Can you tell I love that area. Someone said it would be nice to have something to look forward too after the holidays....I already have 5 trips scheduled in 08, 1 is in Jan and 1 in Feb. Always planning ahead. Take care, MamaO

hey, what happened to the So CA dinner? no report!

I love Monterey/Carmel and surroundings. My first exposure to the area was not exactly touristy. I was in basic training in Ft Ord back in about 1961. My wife and I went there many times while she was alive, after her death I went one time and couldn't stay long. Too many memories. It's been over 5 years, maybe I could do it again.

MamaO, South Cal only had 5 people show. No pictures and very little discussion about it. Am working on time and place for the Monterey Meet. If you want a wine tour, I'm a retired professional Limousine Driver. I can get a DEAL on a limo (divided by how many people going to taste wine, is really cheap and no one has to drive.)

With a wine tour in the afternoon for some and kayaking/diving for others then meet up for dinner. Next day aquarium with lunch in cafe there. January 26-27 OR February 16- 17 2008.
