THAILAND:

If you are thinking about retiring somewhere:

Did I mention, Inexpensive?

Seriously, Thailand is a wonderful place to retire, and the 'Land of Smiles' is NOT a cliche.

Hello

When I saw the title I knew you would be writing about Thailand. Have you ever been anywhere that the people were always smiling, friendly, kind, modest and a joy to be around. That place would be Thailand.

I have been there twice and loved it. The beaches and islands around Thailand are gorgeous, Chiang Mei was great, Bangkok was fun but busy, Phuket was wonderful. The Elephant Camp up in the Chiang Mei area was amazing.

I wanted to go back again a few years ago but the Sars scare was going on - Thailand tried to tell people that they never had Sars but it did keep the tourists away. Then the terrible Tsunami hit them.

Yes, I could see living in Thailand

Thanks for reminding me about that beautiful country. I have got to take a group back there and share it with them.

Have a good weekend.

Seattle99 discovered my secret; I first came here in 74 and have been living here since 83.
If you keep $20K in the bank you can have a retirement visa and stay here forever.
You can't own land unless you do it through a shell company with a Thai but you can own a condo.
In Bangkok there is great public transportation with the sky train and subway being able to take you anywhere in the city in minutes compared to driving a car which can take hours, though these days they have a lot of new highways, just can't find a parking space.
There are a lot of American style supermarkets, not like the old days when we had to fly to Hong Kong and air freight everything back on dry ice.
Food is international, though the only good pizza restaurants are on Sukumwit road.
Thai women are the most beautiful in the world so lots of nice scenery.
The people are the most friendly I have ever met, always smiling.
Rents are cheap if you take the time to look on the Thai internet sanook.com; I have a 3 story 2 bedroom 2 bath house for $250/mo. in the Sathorn district, mostly Chinese neighbors, but if you go out on Sukumwit in Bangkok and want to be around foreigners like yourself the rents are about 5 times as much.
Well, Marti wanted me to join you guys so if there's anymore you want to know about Thailand, feel free to send me a PM.
