Newby

Hey All. I'm new here, I'd looked for a wine group when I first joined Eons in Jan. But there didn't seem to be much action back then. Looks like you have a fairly active goup.

I'm a wine novice but love good wine. I like local winerys and go on wine jaunts with my friends, mostly in Missouri. Where there a lot of good wines and a lot of bad one's also. I think I've kissed enough frogs to know a prince but that's about as far as it goes.

I'm mostly into semi dry white (no oak) and into dry reds. I read the post about room temps and have to agree. I find I like my reds best if they are about 55-60, which I have found to be about 1 hr in the fridge.

I'm hoping to learn more about wine here and will pass on any thing that I may learn.

Welcome Suzieb..........

Read the section on Savingon Blancs and you will find some great selections that should be available locally. My daughter lives near St. Louis and I have made a trip down the wine trail with her. There are not a lot of good choices there.....lol

Ask questions in here and you are sure to get some answers. Read my post on the Beaujolais Nouveau and try that if you have never had it.......

The Beaujolais Nouveau would do well with that.......but since that is still a couple of weeks away and you might want something before then........I would suggest a nice Rose........Monkey Bay Rose is pretty nice.......its a New Zealand winery.......available in most places and a deal at less than $10 a bottle........serve it chilled......yummmmmmm

I've seen that brand of wine but have not tried it. If you recommend it, I'll try it....I can't remember last time I had a rose but remember I always like it. Also where can one fine the Beaujolois Nouveau. I've not had it before but am willing to try about anything. Would a store that carries a descent wine selection carry it or do I need to go to a store that exclusively carries foreign wines? Suz

The Beaujolais Nouveau 2007 will be released on 11/15. You can find it at just about any store that carries a decent selection of wine. It will be available for a month or two after its release and then it will all be gone. Typically it is less than $10 a bottle. Try a bottle and if you like it, stock up, because it will gone until next November. Btw.....if you like the drier whites, when you are getting the Monkey Bay, their Savingnon Blanc is pretty tasty too.........and its inexpensive.

Enjoy yourself..........if you get all of those, I think you probably will......lol

Hope you dont mind me dropping in... wine with a cheeseburger, personally I prefer a Zinfandel, or a blended red wine (like Menage a Trois, Red Truck, Kenwood Vintage Red) something with enough oomph and fruit to pair with the nice grilled juicy burger.

I just joined in the past week or two, but this site does seem to get better. I am in MN used to come to a meeting in KC once a year about this time of year but the venue changed... I always like KC, fun town , interesting blend of East, West, North and South there.... and great barbecue.
