I was in a hotel room in Khartoum, Sudan, watching the computer screen refresh, waiting patiently for the box score to be updated every couple of minutes in the wee hours of the morning and celebrating by myself.
Doing the same this year and I'm happy for the same results!
I was right here in Holyoke MA.
My son came over to watch all the games. Game 4 of the World Series we had a small party at the house. I had the fizzy grape juice all ready -- to be honest I was waiting for the ball to go sailing into the dugout and the Cards would come back to win 4 straight (just the Curse raising its ugly head again). When we won my son and I just sat there staring at the TV -- Mr. Met said "Aren't you going to celebrate?" - My son hugged me so hard he cracked 2 ribs -- the pain was worth it!
I too was away from the heart of the Nation in 2004. I was visiting my brother in St. George, Utah. We are both Red Sox fans and watched the games awe struck that we won! But it was lonely. No one else cared or even batted an eye when I announced in the local diner that the Red Sox had won the World Series!
Nice to be among the nation for this win!
I was at my at-the-time-home in Alexandria, VA rooting them on.
I was watching it on TV here at home, alone, but not really; my kids and my mother were in touch via IM and cell phone. Just as they did last night, my neighbors set off fireworks. The following Saturday, I went to the parade and watched the Red Sox ride by on the Duck Tour vehicles. In the rain. Worth it.
I watched all the games here at home in VA. I was so paranoid back then, that I never saw the 9th inning of any of the post season games. I would leave the room at the end of the 8th, and then come back to see what happened! This year I didn't miss an inning. This team has been so special this year, I knew they would take it all.
Although I was hollerin' for the Yankees, honestly, it didn't make as big an impression as did the 4 hurricanes we survived in the previous month. We were still cleaning up the mess when the playoffs started and I wasn't as focused on baseball as I usually am this time of year. I DO remember thinking that maybe it was about time the Red Sox had their turn.
i was calling a friend that was on a cruise in Hawaii :))
Although not there for the series, I did take my son to tour Fenway in the summer of 2004. He was almost 14 then, the Sox have always been his favorite team, and he HAD to go see Fenway while we were in Boston. During the tour I told him that maybe his being there might help break the curse. Not sure that it had any bearing, but if love for baseball and love for the Sox has any merit, it sure didn't hurt.
