Medical Marijuana

Hi! 2 years ago I & my old man got prescriptions for pot. But since we have both smoked it since the late 1960s, it's hard to accept the "legality of it"! I've had type-1 insulin-dependent diabetes since 1969, & I credit pot for enjoying relatively good health. I'd love to hear others' medical pot experiences,(regardless of whether you have a scrip or not!). I think someone should do a study of long-term pot users & its affect on the aging process. Did you know it works as an anti-inflammatory in the brain, & has been shown to protect against Alzheimer's disease & dementia?! Pot has virtually no side effects... (well, you may get the "munchies")! Bye for now, I've got to take my "medication."

I was married to a cancer research scientist from Canada. He smoked a joint each morning with his coffee. I never judged him. I loved him. He was brilliant in many ways and foolish in others.
I have an flamatory illness. The only medications for this immune system disorder are killers. I prefer natural.
As a native of the Earth, I feel I should be able to use the medications she supplies. They have less side effects that kill.

I agree, Selene. It's here, it's real, it's natural...and, oh yeah...big corporations can't get a patent on it and therefore can't bilk us for way too much money per hit.

I've never been able to understand why pot got the reputation it has. Nor can I understand why the fed feels it's necessary to raid the medical marijuana distributors on the trumped up charges they cited.

No...I understand. I get it. And I think it's so incredibly stupid. At some point, the people have to reclaim their government. But that's another rant. And another group.

Dont let it in any way bother you. Easiest thing in the world to be is a critic. There has been sommuch miss information passed around over the years that fear has paralized John Q into even trying herb.

I just read this old post and wanted to share. I am co founder of a medical marijuana group HerbandLife.org and have seen first hand the wonderful awesome benefits of our chosen natural medicine. A member of our group had been on Morphin for over 4 years living in a total fog no quality of life and still in horrid pain. After deciding this is no way to live she, told her Dr. no more and switched entirely to MMJ. Long story short 1 year later and still some pain but living life to the fullest and not trapped in bed. Medical properties of cannabis have been known for very very long time education is the key.

High catpants! Man, that old post of mine takes me back (almost 3 years!) -- I posted this just 2 days after forming OT! And, yes, marijuana is THE wonder drug for SO many things.

1 of its great cancer properties is that pot is able to target specific cancer-diseased cells, while NOT compromising healthy cells, so when you use pot for cancer, your immune system won't be compromised like it is when traditional cancer-fighting therapies/medicines are used. While some of the cannabinoids stop-and-eradicate the cancerous cells, other cannabinoid compounds are protecting your body against developing cancerous cells in the 1st place.

Also, altho the pharmaceutical companies have isolated some of these cannabis compounds, and produced synthetic versions in pill form, like Marinol, you need the ENTIRE pool of cannabinoids, working naturally, and synergistically with each other, for them to work effectively.

The list of cancers cannabinoid-therapy eradicates, and protects against, continues to lengthen. Currently it's known to work well on breast, brain, colon, LUNG, prostate, and skin cancers -- I capitalized "lung" because I LOVE the fact that if you develop lung cancer from smoking cigarettes, your "cure" can be smoking pot! Pot's effect on the lungs, larynx, mouth, throat, etc., is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of tobacco's...! Click on the links below for more details of marijuana's many applications on diseases and conditions. Stay Well, Stay High and Peace! Alison

High dhmurf! Medical pot is currently available in 13 states, with each of those 13 states having different laws, and different requirements for procuring a YEARLY "prescription"; generally the word "prescription" isn't even used -- the physician-generated paperwork is referred to as a "recommendation," AND, the "recommendation" costs money. Sometimes state pot "scrips" can be extremely pricey. Here in California, the cost varies, depending on what city you live in, what pot doctor you see, etc. Sometimes, if there are 2 of you, like husband-and-wife, you can get a discount. Also, some pot docs give you a discount if you're a "repeat patient," who sees the same physician every year.

States also vary as to HOW it's made available. Many states use local dispensaries, that are usually run as "non-profit" retail outlets, supplied by collective "nurseries." Some states allow qualified patients to grow their own "medicine." Some states require you to register as a medical pot user, and some states require you to purchase a medical ID card. Here in CA, some counties issue ID cards, while others don't. Some states, like New Mexico, have state distribution centers. Click on the link below for further info. Stay High and Peace! Alison
