My Father-in laws pumpkin pie

No sugar in pumpkin pie? My father-in-law makes pumpkin pie with no sugar not even sugar substitute.

The pie looks great, the pie smells great. Believe me you can’t imagine the taste of that pie when you take a bite. It’s so bad that you think, NO WAY IT’S THAT BAD? It looks and smells so good. So you take another bite; and wham it hits you again a bitter flat taste that stays with you the rest of the evening.

Now I don’t know if a pumpkin is considered a fruit or not all I know is that people can make a pie out of it and it looks good all lit up as a jack-o-lantern. But looks and smell can fool you.

Apples make a great pie my wife can make a great apple pie with know sugar added. Apples aren’t as big or bright as a pumpkin. But apples have there own sugar inside. Even the apples that are considered sour have sugar inside. And sugar inside is a major advantage when making a pie.

Maybe its because apples grow on a tree closer to the suns warmth. It sits up there all day just letting the sun shine on it just as sweet as it can be. Even when it rains the apples seems to shine more.

Not like a pumpkin. They’re on the ground all dirty or muddy when it rains, full of weeds. Sometime they grow them between the stalks of corn not a lot of sun there. I guess that’s why there’s not a lot o sugar in a pumpkin even though it looks good it’s pretty bitter or at best tasteless.

Sometimes people can be like that. Yep you need to add a lot of sugar to get a pumpkin to make taste half way decent in a pie.

I guess that’s why I always chose the apple it may not be the greatest pie ever made but it a sure bet it will taste good.

Sugarless pumpkin pie is best left alone.

I know exactly what that tastes like. About five years ago I forgot the put the sugar in the pumpkin pies I always make at Thanksgiving. Those were some nasty pies. We ended up scooping the pumpkin out of them, mixing in the sugar and putting the filling in custard bowls and putting it in the oven just long enough to make a 'crust' on the top. It was actually pretty good.

Why does he bother to make a pumpkin pie at all?

Does someone lie and say "mmmmmmmmmm, dellicious"?

Has he tried a natural sugar substitute, called Stevia,
made from a tree leaf?

I am diabetic and if I am going to eat pie, I will take a little extra insulin or somehow compensate. Sugarfee pie has to be one of those oxymorons. Ugh.
Pie crust has never been my favorite so I make pumpkin "pie" with more of a streusel type topping with sugar, nuts and yellow cake mix. It's yummy. If anyone wants the recipe, let me know.
And if my doctor is reading this, just keep rolling your eyes...

Pour some Kero Syrup over the pie. Makes a big difference.

Wow! That sucks! And pumpkin pie seasons is right around the corner. I'll be thinking of you as I add a dollop of Cool Whip to mine. Maybe two!

Thanks but for some reason he like the pie that way. Stubborn I guess?

It must be an acquired taste like a dry martini. I just smile and move to the apple, why fight it.

A big B I N G O to you, luv2rite, no1bookmark & aries75248
