Sleep...how much is good?

Hearing conflicting reports on how much sleep we should get. They were saying 8 hours was needed and now they have revised this that less sleep may be beneficial. How much sleep is good? Lonestar1.
Since I retired, I sleep whatever my body wants. If I stay up to midnight, I sleep until eight. If I am asleep at eleven, I wake up at seven. It seems to me that if you just let your body tell you what is best, it does.

This sleep thing what is that? President Kennedy was a fan of cat naps while Reagan delighted in days of the stuff.

For me 6 to 7 hours seems to be enough- and a nap if I can sneak it in.

I know most of do not get enough sleep. I read an article that suggested our society has an increase exposure to accidents and such from the people in charge/driving not getting enough sleep. the one statement that stuck with me was "try getting more sleep. You will be surprised at how much better you feel and how much more effective you are."

I've noticed that myself. Those nights I short cut my sleep I am far less effective the next day especially compared to those nights I get 7-8 hours of sleep.

Those few days I allow my body to get the sleep it wants without being awakened by an alarm, it wants 8 hours of sleep.

Read that people who sleep more weigh less....hmmmm....have to think about that one but it supposedly helps you maintain a healthier weight to sleep more. Time to curl up I want to lose about 5 these days....Lonestar1.
