My one dog, Malcolm, comes up to me and gets up on his hind legs to be picked up. He will dig my leg until I pick him up. My other dog, Ashley, will sit at my feet and start nudging my foot with her nose. Then I know it's time to stop and pay attention to my 2 furkids!
They have two methods. The first involves INTENT staring...without blinking...if that doesn't work, my cat just walks directly onto my keyboard and lays down. If it is the dog, he will stick his nose under my hand or rest his chin on my leg and PRESS DOWN hard. Good thread!
"Hey Cos"!
My "English Springer/Duke" does the exact same thing! He wants my attention and knows how to get it! (just like a man!)

Hi I'm new here. Great question.
My Groucho who is in his last days, has always walked up and laid his chin down on our leg very hard like his head is heavy and he just stairs up at us with his big brown eyes until we laugh and pay attention to him. When he has to go out he paces around and around on our hard wood floors clicking his toe nails until we given in and get up and then he races to the back door.
Aren't pets wonderful how they know us so well?
Hmmm... good thread. Jersey will parade back and forth in front of me, "talk" to me (not sure just what it is she's saying, though), and if I'm still not paying attention, she'll stand up on me - she's pretty short, so she has to be as big as she can. Sommer will come over and stare at me a while, and will ultimately paw at my leg. This gets my attention... she strong, and this HURTS. Tigg just jumps up on the couch (I usually surf sitting on the couch with the laptop) and plops down across the keyboard. Very effective. If I'm on one of my desktops, I'm either in the study or the basement, and the dogs pretty much leave me alone unless they need to go out. Tigg will still jump up on my lap and start typing on the keyboard. Again, very efective.
That is a great question and it makes me laugh at the same time because I can picture my three dogs now. My yellow lab Blossom is the instigator. She'll plop her head on my lap and just stare at me for the longest time and if I don't respond she picks her head up and plops it back down harder. If that doesn't work, (which it is she just doesn't know it yet),She sits up in attention and stares a hole through me without as much as a blink. Patches my lab mix talks. He almost sounds like a bear and my Carmella, my shepherd mix could care less. She's does her own thing. She reminds me of a dogie Garfield....Additude
sounds like everyone has very smart pets (arent they all).my punkin sits up on her butt.barks and shakes her front paws at me,it is almost like she is talking. baby sits and waits to see if punkin is going to get my attention.if not she jumps into my lap and acts like she is going to bite my nose, never has .but has been pretty close.i don't think she would really bite my nose !!!!!......donna....daje

This is a great thread!
Okay - so what is it with the kitties and the keyboards? Mine does the same thing.
He will jump in my lap, and if I don't either pet him and baby talk to him or hold him on his back like a baby (all 14 big pounds of him) - he will start walking on the keyboard - then you have no choice.
He loves the kittie, Nora - playing the piano. I play it for him at least once a day - and he will jump up on the keyboad and start pawing at Nora (I maximize the screen - so she is life size), and try to play her piano with his paws. He can't figure out where she is - so he will try to go behind the monitor to see if she is behind it.
The little poodle just jumps on my lap or walks on my laptop while I am trying to type. The big yellow lab goes to the door as if to say "It's time to play ball." The cat walks right on the lap top too.

One of my cats, Golden (I call him Goldman, he reminds me of an old Jewish man) goes kveck, kveck and jumps on the desk blocking my view of the screen.
