Fine Whine

Here's a joker who dominates the Home Page today, as he whines about why he and his ilk don't dominate the Home Page as much as they'd like to.

I say, continue the battle. Boom things! I go to the home page daily and boom the good stuff. But go to the post! Don't just click on "Boom". That's how posts with fewer booms are getting ahead of others.

Palin Lies About Sudan Divestment

What kind of low human being lies about their record working against genocide??? During the debate, Sarah Palin made quite a statement about her adminstration’s role in divesting from Sudan:

“When I and others in the legislature found out that we had some millions of dollars [of Permanent Fund investments] in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars…”

Divestment was used successfully to pressure the South African government to protest apartheid and many have urged divestment from Sudan to protest the atrocities still happening there. Turns out that was all a crock to try and look more competitive next to Joe Biden whose work against genocide in Sudan is well-known. Wow, she’s really a horrible person and this deserves as much or more media coverage than her racist, ridonkulous and false Ayers smear.

ABC News has the story view link (thanks to Ari Rabin-Havt at FireDogLake for flagging the story):

…a search of news clips and transcripts from the first three months of this year did not turn up an instance in which Palin mentioned the Sudanese crisis or concerns about Alaska’s investments tied to the ruling regime. Moreover, Palin’s administration openly opposed the bill, and stated its opposition in a public hearing on the measure.

“The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens’ financial security is not a good combination,” testified Brian Andrews, Palin’s deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. Minutes from the meeting are posted online by the legislature.

How long do you think those minutes will stay online, hmm? These lies and this terrible woman have to be stopped.

THE MANAGER AND MODERATORS

Hmm ... now the moderators and managers are not listed separately. They are listed among all the other members so if you want to contact us, that is where you will find us. It was so much simpler before? argh

Sounds like a corporate decision to me! READ ON:

Never forget one such decision I observed. It was in my favorite grocery store. The suits were telling the workers to be sure to stack the oranges in a set way to offer a better display.

I had to butt in and say:

"Hmm I am sorry but I could not help hearing what you were saying. I think the presentation would be greatly improved by the removal of oranges with mold."

I then pointed out five examples of oranges that had gone rotten.

The workers smiled and nodded, and the suits looked disturbed that they never noticed it, and told the workers that I was right to "Remove those immediately!" I smiled and walked off, chuckling to myself. LOL

new "don't vote " PSA

Have you all seen the new public service announcement that is supposed to just get people to vote? It will run free of charge on all stations. It is a lot of actors saying don't vote, don't vote, what does it mean anyway, just you life your freedom of choice, your right to bla bla bla, who are they kidding? Not me, and I hope the fcc pulls this ad for barak or at least makes it a very paid for add.

Are We Alone?

Are we the only life forms in this Universe? This question has been batted around for millennia, with no real hope of having an answer. Until last year.

Scientists have discovered the first potentially habitable planet outside of our solar system. Now there's a jaw-dropper!

The newly discovered extrasolar planet is the smallest yet discovered. It is estimated to have a radius 50% bigger than the Earth, so gravity on it would be about twice as strong as it is here, and it orbits a red dwarf called Gliese 581 which is 20.40 light years away (relatively close to us) in the constellation Libra.

The exoplanet is 14 times closer to its star than the Earth is from the Sun and so its year - a full orbit around the star - is only 13 Earth days long. But the good news is that since the red dwarf is smaller [one third of the mass] and cooler than the Sun, the planet nevertheless would lie in its habitable zone—the region around a star with suitable temperatures for liquid water.

A year is only 13 days long there. I wonder if we would feel dizzy living on that planet.

So it seems that red dwarfs have the potential for having planets that could sustain life. Looks like we are getting closer to finding the mother lode of Little Green Men.

Update on Harley and the Red Cross

Today we had our inperson orientation. That consisted of filling out a ton of forms, looking in a giant book for any volunteer jobs we wanted (this was a meeting for more people than the pet volunteers) taking a copy of the job description, making an appointment to visit another office, receiving a few handouts and getting a few booster vaccinations. I think with all of the paperwork that has to be processed, we are probably still a few weeks away from "The Day" when we get to actually take Harley and go visit some folks.

We heard some great stories about the program today, and all 3 of us are very excited about it! More as it develops!

YA THNK HE'S ALITTLE SLOW!

I think my wife is selling drugs!
Yesterday I was running a little bit late for work and the phone rang.
I answered it and before I could say anything a male voice on the line said,
"Hey honey is that dope gone yet?"

Ladies and KNIGHTS

Wanting the Fairy Tale...
How many of us as little girls wished and waited for
Prince Charming to rescue us to live happily ever after?
Sometimes that Fairy Tale seems so far away...
...not even certain that it truly exists.
Still, I wait and watch...and hopefully...
