Books

Mention books or writing and you have my attention. I love readers. That's because I'm a writer. Reams of stuff about my career are on view link or Google.

I don't write the usual genres — just write what I want, then try to figure it out. It often turns out to be lifestyles of fascinating characters, people I've interviewed. I did write a children's book titled Javelina! Have-uh-WHAT? (Have-uh-LEE-nah). It's about wild pig-like animals that roam our Southwestern deserts. Did you ever hear of such an animal? I used to delight in photographing them through the windows of our home.

I would very much love to read some of your books. I especially like children's books. I have never heard javelinas.

Hello LadyGene, Yes, I HAVE heard of Javelinas. When I lived in San Antonio, Texas my husband would tell me of his encounters with them on his daily jogs in the backwoods of the AFB where he was stationed. Never seen one but I do know what they are. Wonderful that you are a writer.

I lived in Sierra Vista, Arizona, for a year or so, and during a horseback ride spooked a few javelinas from out of the scrub brush. They weren't much interested in me or my horse, though, at least after they saw what the commotion was that had run them out of their concealment.

Still, they're wild pigs, long tusks sticking out of their mouths, rooting around here and there. Being so close to them felt almost prehistoric, or at least ancient for me. I was glad I was on the back of a creature that didn't seem to mind what clambered out of the brush.

I read some of your book notes, and was intrigued by all that Amazon is doing these days with books, especially converting them into ebooks. Not that ebooks are any great shakes yet, but it caught my eye, nonetheless. My Bible is on my PDA, so when the preacher says to go to such-and-such a page, instead of joining the fluttering of the other paper Bibles, I click-click-click to the spot.

Anyway, congratulations on your fine accomplishments. They look like great reading.

I see that my last message was posted two years ago. It's time for an update. Just minutes ago I sent several paragraphs from my THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT CAVE CREEK (It's The People) book to NPR's site. It analyzes the writing and immediately sends back the information telling you what famous person you write like. I write like MARK TWAIN. Just the thought makes me bubble over with happiness. MARK TWAIN! MARK TWAIN, MARK TWAIN, MARK TWAIN!
