Guest Pass Suspended

We hear you. When we next update the Eons site (ideally tomorrow), we will temporarily remove Guest Pass from the community. Guests won’t be able to join groups or take part in the community in any way. Will Guest Pass come back? We hope so. But we want you to help us make Guest Pass work in a way that enhances, not detracts from, your 50+ experience at Eons.

Our goal with Guest Pass is to provide you with a way to make Eons a bigger part of your life. Everyone 50+ has family, friends or spouses who are under 50. We agreed that they would have to wait until they turn 50 to become full members, but we thought there was a way to involve them - not in the entire Eons community - just in your own corner of it…

As a startup that’s only a year old, we need to innovate and grow in a market that’s been largely ignored. We need to try new things on Eons. Some will work. Others may not. When we try something new, we always want to hear what you think. Together, we’ll add new features that make Eons better and fix the things that worry you.

We look forward to continuing this conversation…

[Note: It’s more complex to remove Guest Pass from Obits and Brain Builders, but we wanted to respond to you in the meantime]

I guess I may be the one of the first to respond here. So I'll say that I'm glad to hear that you heard us & decided to suspend this feature.
However, I was disappointed to read that you still want to bring it back.
I just can't see any way that this could work or why it's even necessary. Maybe I'm dense & just don't get it.
Any of my friends & family members that are too young to belong to this group can interact with me elsewhere. This is MY corner of the world for fun. This is where I can spend time with people in my age group, act silly, be serious, get help, etc. If I wanted help from others outside this place, I know where to find them.
I'm still against it.

I think that is a wise decision.

Would you please ask the expert code people to break away from the "guest pass agenda" to let us rearrange profile pics? ~ something we have asked for, for quite a while.

Methinks tallbob was wise to be on vacation while guest pass was introduced.

I for one am very impressed with the fact you are hearing us and made this decision. It did cause a bit of a ruckus amongst us flipping on the other side of fifty...I suppose technically anyone can join EONS . There is no verification of birth dates, so if people want to resort to lying it can be done. I can see both sides of the coin. I bragged to my 33 yr old daughter about finding my own "MySpace". I can relate on so many topics when the posts and replies are people that have gone thru the same thing as myself. I do wish the Obits could be viewed by anyone, but i guess there are other sites to do this where there are no age restrictions.
Thank you for listening. I can only speak for myself when I say I believe EONS and this member have much the same goals for EONS to grow and prosper

Thank you for listening. It is a relief to know that this is still just for us over 50.

Thanks for that...and I have a suggestion. Since we do enjoy the many benefits of Eons being a free site and since many of us have become friends over long distances in a way we could not have done without Eons, I would like to suggest that Eons do a marketing survey of members to find out what we really DO use or need. Our age group is largely ignored as a target market. We also hate ads that are intrusive or stupid.

Might we as members be able to be more proactive in this? If we find something noteworthy (a company, a gadget, a service), how about we have a place to tell you about it so that your marketing people can approach them for ads?

Thanks so much. This EONS advisory feature is pretty progressive, I must say. It reminds me of my old days as an AOL member when the CEO (Steve Case??) used to post messages and announcements to all AOL members. I liked that feature and it wasn't even live, so your real-time feedback is awesome!

The obits CAN be viewed by anyone. I googled my father, and found the obit I wrote for him on Eons. I promptly deleted it - it had the names and locations of all his descendants and siblings, and there was no way I felt comfortable putting that kind of information out there for just anyone to see. Had I known the obit would be picked up, I never would have written it in the first place.

BajaHorseLady's marketing suggestion is pretty creative. It would be an interactive market for the targeted corporate entities if it worked as it should. Interesting concept.
