Hug-ology

Hug-ology
Hugs reduce stress and protect against cardiovascular disease, according to researchers at the University of North Carolina.

Their studies showed that people who received hugs before a stressful event had far lower blood pressure and heart rate increases than those who hadn't previously been hugged. Chief researcher Dr. Karen Grewe said that warm contact such as hand-holding and hugs before the start of a rough day "could carry over and protect you through the day."

Another study by Dr Grewe showed that a 20 second hug increased body levels of the hormone oxytocin, which has cardioprotective effects. Dr. Charmaine Griffiths of the British Heart Foundation commented: "This study has reinforced research findings that... a hug from a loved one can have beneficial effects on health." Yes, hugs are truly good for the heart!

The great thing about hug-ology is that we can all go out and practise this form of preventative medicine and stress management. No lengthy med-school training required!

WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, MAKES A GOOD HUG?

Hugging someone that you love is so powerful that you can transmit feeling and emotions without the need to say anything.

A hug is giving and receiving love without the use of words.

A hug is the ultimate healing touch.

"Analysis is the way of the mind, hugging is the way of the heart. The mind is the cause of all diseases, and the heart is the source of all healing." -Osho

So hug more to keep love spreading!

A good hug is a mutually uplifting experience. No awkwardness or holding back! Feeling really warm towards the other person and wanting to express this emotion in a loving, tactile manner. A desire to blend positive energies and feel more connected. To truly be in the present and enjoy the process. We need to do more of it!

A good hug is a hug that translates the physical contact to a spiritual moment.

one that you want to grow with, never leave those holding arms again.

Hugging is complete body language - warm safe and loving

There are various types of hugs (hello hug, polite hugs, didn't see you for long time hug, happy you are alive hug), but the one I want to write about is the beautiful hug, perhaps the almost perfect one...the one given genuinely from deep within...expecting nothing back in return, spontaneous long lasting...with eyes closed and a little tear of happiness coming just out...When you are giving this hug, your body shivers slightly getting covered with thousands of mini goose-pimples. The one where the world, time...just about everything stops for the moment...and you don't want that moment to pass...ever! The feeling of bliss and of a strong glowing aura of something magical...where words are no longer needed ...

So I think the main thing for me about a "good" hug is "connection" and being genuinely received/receiving.

I am a hugger, too, and I know there are not many better things you can give to someone you love or, sometimes, a stranger who needs reassurance. Let's hear it for hugs!

Yes, Asari.. I so agree. I work with elderly patients, that need hugs everyday. They would otherwise never hardly receive any tactile stimul. I hug them and special ones kiss them on the forehead. I hold their hands. I tell them I wish I could take "you" home with me. Everyone needs skin contact at one time or another. So in my field I "hug" everday most of my patients, or at the very least lay my hand upon their shoulder..touch..after I give them medicine. Even co-workers hug one another in greeting...it is so special....thank you for your post.

Best HUGS are the unexpected ones- like when we meet someone we've not seen for awhile or when we say something that helps another and they hug us in thanks !!
