Is nobel peace prize winner a man of war?

It seems like whatever president Obama touches turns into division, upheaval, and war.

I am trying to remember what the president has done that has bridged gaps between people and fostered more understanding and tolerance, whether it is between nations, or factions or our major political parties, or the rich and the poor, or the left and right, or the government and the governed, etc.

I will say that I thought that the tone that the president took during the summit talks was actually encouraging and bipartisan sounding. I liked it and became hopeful of this type of spirit being nurtured.

Then the president went back into full throttle mode on the HCR bill even to the point of now threatening and dividing those in his own party if they don't vote for his bill (whatever that will be?).

Israel is a tiny country hated by many of it's surrounding neighbors and not loved by it's European brothers and sisters either. It has been trying to survive for 60 plus years and be left alone only to be repeatedly attacked. America has historically been it's strongest ally, or it used to be.

The administration has been extremely silent on Iran, a terrorist regime at a time when it's leaders are killing their own citizens who want freedom. They are developing nuclear weapons. We dare not interfere, seems to be the policy now.

But Israel is building apartments. Surely this is a greater evil to be spoken out against than anything that Iran is doing. At least one would think based on the two different approaches from our government.

I have asked this in another group and have yet to receive an answer.

List the top 5 accomplishments the President has achieved these past 14 months?

We still have higher unemployment.
We are still at war
Gitmo is still open
Our national debt is skyrocketing
Lack of transparency in government
More divicivness
And on, and on

The fact that Obama had written TWO autobiographies by his early forties , despite having accomplished exactly nothing of note speaks volumes about his unbounded ego . It is that ego which is driving the relentless and frantic pressure to pass his garbage legislation .

Ask yourself why Israel is so hated/dislked by so many. It's not something coming out of nowhere. 60 years of survival? The British wrested that land from the people living there for centuries, and handed it over to the displaced Jews. How would you feel if your land was taken from you? If your home was destroyed to make room for Israeli settlements? If you weren't allowed passage into areas you and your family called home? If you had to pass through numerous checkpoints to get from Point A to B? If some other nation claimed you had no rights in Jerusalem? Etc, etc.

Israel is no saint; Palestinians are not the devil. There are two sides to this story.

Israel announced it was going to build 1600 more apartments in East Jerusalem, which is disputed territory. They made this announcement just as Biden was visiting to discuss the proximity talks. Israel figured they could push the envelope, again, and cry foul. The foul was theirs.

Israel isn't interested in peace talks; just the semblance of them.

Iran is a separate set of issues.

Note to CatsAhoy: I suggest you might what to go a bit further back in history. I think the Jews had a claim to that property a little more than 60 years ago when "the British wrested that land from the people living there."

Jews have typically been hated throughout history, so what is new?

What did they do to Hitler to warrant scores of them being annihilated?

Just because someone is hated doesn't in itself prove evil doing.

Did not the Jews and Israelis live in that land for centuries, and were driven out?

Why is only the more recent past history relevant?

Has Israel ever gone out unprovoked to seek more territory and just conquer it's neighbors?

It has had nuclear weapons and could easily have taken over other territories through military might.

I won't say that Israel is without any crimes or above reproach, because human beings with flaws run it and inhabit it. Nor would I group all Palestinians together and as being full of ill will. I accept that their are many that have been mistreated or harmed but my overall opinion is that generally this has occurred unintentionally.

Iran might be a separate set of issues but it is the same administration that has not stood up at all for those Iranians that need our help against an obviously evil regime. Nor have they made any clear and effective actions to cause Iran to even consider a need to stop what they are doing.

What is Israel's explanation for building the units?

I guess I will have to research this.

your original question ,ask4light-Is nobel peace prize winner a man of war?
and you go on to say-about the president trying to bridge gaps.
i am wondering is this almost like damn if you do and damn if you don't?
come on,if he softens his stance on terrorism and looks as tho he is trying to bridge that gap in the middle east,he will be considered weak on fighting terrorism, and then if he toughens his stance to keep troops overseas to fight terrorism and bemoans the Isrealies on their treatment of people he will catch flak on that. so no matter which way he tries to do what is right or best interest of this country its wrong.
btw ,what is this countries best intrest on foriegn policy?
something i find also intresting is back in the late 1960's on up to the 80s or so the far right in this country have been anti semetic, now its popular for them to embrace those of Jewish faith and country.hmmm does it have anything to do with votes?nah.

My general rant was about the numerous areas. I admit that the foreign policy issues are more complex.
I do not know where he stands though (my comparison with the difference of outspokenness regarding Israel and little clear objection to Iran).

Many things that he has done with his policies and his way of trying to get them passed has been to me very divisive (in ways that were not necessary).

President Obama's NPP was given as a political prize, a nod from the EU towards potential, not performance. There were so many other more worthy candidates, that it is embarrassing that he accepted it.
Having said that any president who has (in this day and age) an indecisive demeanor, who swings in the breeze of public opinion, and short term political gains risks constant challenges to the security of the country he leads.

Antisemitism has not been confined to the "far right", it has permeated society for thousands of years; right, left, middle, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, illiterate, literate, serf or prince. So lets not throw that stink pot.

As I noted, portraying Israelis as saints, and Palestinians as devils isn't correct. As I said, two sides to the story. view link This history is from the earliest of times.

Lots of countries involved. Provoked and unprovoked actions.

History of Iran: view link We can't exactly waltz into there by claiming the people don't want this government. The US has been already accused of tampering in the governments there, and further tampering wouldn't be treated favorably. And why stop there? There are a number of nations with governments disliked by their populace. Are we to wander around the globe fixing every nation's government? I doubt that would work, even if that was in the scheme of things.

Is Obama divisive in his foreign policy? I suppose that depends on whether you agree with his approach or not. In the same way that every president has faced cheers or booing at various policies.

From roughly the early 1960's through the late and unlamented disaster of Bush II , the USA had a 300% pro-Israel foreign policy . It is largely THAT foreign policy which has made nearly all Moslem states enemies of the USA .
