OK, Here They Are.

Pictures from one of our major bike routes south. Not as spectacular as some of the places you all get to bike, but at least there's not much traffic on these roads. This is in the eastern part of the county only a few miles from Biscayne Bay in a lot of places. I'll post the pics in the first reply so wait a bit. I won't put all of them on here. There are 36! If you are all that interested you can see the rest on my profile.

I ride the bike path on this road. Lots of traffic including cars and trucks trailering boats on their way to the marina, also no shoulder.

The marina--about 5 miles south of my house.

Most of this part of the county is filled with field nurseries for the larger trees. Lots of palms.

Yes, that's corn. The second planting of the season as the first was killed by the cold spells we had.

A fish out of water? It could have fallen out of the clutches of a hawk.

Royal palms..stately, aren't they?

Take the road to the left. Better facilities at the National Park Visitor Center.

A view of the Bay.

The visitor center

In the center on the horizon is downtown Miami.

Ya think the wind was strong today?

fish sculptures on the walls

Headed home out of the park

...only 2 1/2 miles into that wind on this stretch.

As you can tell, our roads are flat and straight! Pedal, pedal, pedal. No downhills. On Wednesday, I hope to get our to the area called the Redlands. it's rural and agricultural. I'll take more pics then. It's a little more interesting as far as foliage.

I've done some of my most tiring rides on flat roads with steady hard winds. No breaks at all that way. This is definitely the time of year I think all of us in snow country would love to ride on such peaceful looking green....did I mention GREEN scenic routes, and like you say, it looks as though there is very little traffic. I could go for the scenery and the quiet.

Actually there are usually dump trucks on that road, but they are very respectful of riders. There were also road crews out scaping the easement. Lots of grass and weeds growing onto the roadway. So, there were more peeps out there today than usual. Did I mention that the road is about 2 miles to the east of Homestead AFB? The jets were taking off today so that was pretty noisy. The base is now used for the National Guard training. At least there isn't the steady line of cars you get in some areas.

I forget that the rest of the country has no green at this time of year. Most of our trees drop some leaves in winter, the dry season, but they are still pretty full. C'mon down. We'll go riding.

You have that right Rik...the wind is the great equalizer. But, look at that flat road....as far as the eye can see.
Those palms are beautiful...very stately indeed! I also really like the island architecture of that visitor center. Makes me think of Hemmingway for some reason.
I agree....pedal, quiet, scenery, green, warm.....it's like a mid-winter dream!!

South Florida, The flat and green both look pretty good to this Missouri boy too. It is just cold, muddy, wet, flooded, mostly cloudy and, oh did I mention, just about as windy here as it is there. So, I think we pretty much have your bad, our bad, and everyone else's bad---except Jim Bangs. Our snow finally melted about a week ago, which is about a month and a half late. But I did see a peep of sunshine today. Hope springs eternal.

Hello Joe. I've spent some time in Missouri--Poplar Bluff and Columbia to be exact. Went to Mizzou. Never did any biking when I lived there.

What a wonderful place you have to ride, although one place is a little 'fishy' I must say! That pic was a hoot! Our wind should arrive in force anytime now. There were two more inches of snow this morning to wake up to, but it was super wet and gone in no time with the almost 60 degree afternoon just leaving the ever present mud in its place. We should have a few really nice days to ride though, if the weather man read the tea leaves right that is.

Hey Teeiea, I forgot to add to my post that when you bicycle in most States, they make small fishing poles that will collapse small enough to fit into a bicyclist's bag, or rear jersey pocket, so you can enjoy a little fishing while out riding.........in Florida however, all you need is a scoop shovel!
