Our allergist told us to remove carpet & drapes, in bedrooms particularly, cover mattress with plastic, wash sheets & blankets frequently, vacuum daily, keep pets out of house or at least out of bedrooms.
My daughter bought covers for her pillows and mattress. She isn't going to pull up the carpet yet but will eventually replace it with 'pretend' hardwood. Her doctor told her to bathe the dogs weekly since there was no way they weren't going to sleep with her! If you can't have your pets in the house, there is no reason to have them.
Do you know of any carpet cleaning solutions that are geared toward getting rid of dust mites?
Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum using one that has a HEPA filter.
Use room air cleaners with HEPA filters. I got 3 at Wally World for pretty cheap. I only have to dust about once a month now!!!! Added little bonus!!
Hard surface flooring is the way to go also!
Replace pillows very 6 months, and mattress sets every 7-8 years as the mfg recommends. Serta has a sign by some mattress displays in stores that says 1/2 the weight of your mattress after so many years is dust mites. Yuck! Vacuum your mattress when you change your sheets, and wash linens in hot water.
ana, I have a friend in the carpet cleaning business.....I'll ask what they recommend.
OK ana, here's what the expert says. all the above,
PLUS have your cpt cleaners use Master Blend Allergen Relief when they do the carpets.
I would appreciate that cozumelgrl.
