My best little buddy, Pepper the Quaker Parrot. Very happy to be here with you all, especially since Pepper is my first bird.

Its hard for me to believe Pepper is already 5 y.o. Our life situation is drastically altering as I have just gone thru a divorce & will be relocating to Denver from So. FL. Am very concerned about leaving my wonderful avian vet, Dr. Gwen Flinchum. He had a big adjustment when I started working again this year but seems to be handling it without too much stress. (He listens to National Public Radio during the day.) Pepper is a bossy little guy with a bit of a vocabulary that he uses in an appropriate fashion. He is brighter than any dog I have ever owned and I have been amazed at what a delightful companion a bird can be!

Sorry to hear about the upheaval in your life, but I think you'll find Pepper will handle it fairly well. While I live in California, I'm fairly certain you'll find a capable avian vet in Denver.
Our birds listen to NPR alot of the day as well. Maybe we should hook them up via web cams so they can discuss issues and favorite classical compositions!

Arcade,
Pepper is particularly fond of "Prairie Home Companion" & "Car Talk." Loves to laugh along with them! Will also sometimes show an interest in opera, esp. female voices.

my birdies like classical music and country (what a switch up eh?) they get really agitated when rap is on. i have a tv in their room as well and used to let them watch animal planet until one day they raised such an uproar (i was getting ready to go out for the evening), i had to run in there to see what was going on...there was a show about snakes on. i now don't let them watch animal planet...haha! so they sing to country or watch cartoons. one of my double yellow heads is an fan of Toy Story, hence his name of "buzz lightyear". he learned "to infinity and beyond" watching that. and pee wee herman...he makes a lot of the different noises from that show.....

How cute! It really is wrong to use the term "bird brain" as a slight! They don't miss a thing.

We live in the country, so to speak. Lotsa wild birds of all sorts, come and go with the seasons. Some stay year round of course. One of my favorites are the Ravens.
They're scientifically recognized as some of the smartest avians there are, and watching wild ones gives credence to that notion. There's two pair that have taken up residence in some pines across the street from us. I went out to get the paper this morning and they were frolicking overhead as I did so. They landed in one of our Sycamore trees as I watched, and then started to make sounds that are very much like those bamboo wind chimes that are made overseas. It's really an intriguing sound - the likes of which I've never heard from any other sorta bird.

Sorry for the late welcome as I've been offline for about a week. I do hope your move goes smoothly and you find another good avian vet.

Yup, I take "bird brained" as a compliment these days after seeing how sharp my birds have been. :-)
