BAYOU CITY CLASSIC 10K - MARCH 13, 2010

Yesterday I wore my costume that HB suggested when I asked for costume ideas here in the group for the Bayou City Classic 10K.
HB, I wish you could have been there with me - what a blast it was. I want to thank you for that clever, and both humorous and serious costume idea. I had such a great time with it! I never had so many “chest” stares in my life, by both men and women! As soon as people read the front of me, you could just see the smiles and laughter. So many runners, volunteers, and race supporters came up to me and said that they just loved my costume. There were even men who ran up beside me during the 10K to thank me for wearing it since they had close family members in the service, and they knew those service men would appreciate it.

See first reply for the rest of the story and some of the photos.

My 73 year old running friend who lives in Rockport, Texas, and runs at least a minute a mile faster than I do was near me at the starting line, so I knew I wouldn’t be receiving a first place age group award. However, there was evidently a glitch in the computer re our results, and somehow when the results were announced for our 70 to 74 age group awards, my name was announced for the first place award. I went up to one of the race committee members and asked her if she knew whether my friend had been injured during the race or had dropped out for some other reason. The member said,”No, I saw her cross the finish line.” So I let the committee member know that I knew my friend should have received the first place award since she’s faster than I am. Sure enough, my friend was standing back behind the stage during the award announcements wondering what had happened. So, luckily, the woman who had originally received the 2nd place award (another friend of mine!) was doing face painting at the post-race party, so she was still there. The 2nd place award was taken from her and given to me, and the 1st place award was taken from me and given to the age group winner. After everything was straightened out our 70 - 74 group of awards was re-announced, correctly, this time - PHEW!
The announcer for the costume awards came over to me during the awards ceremony, and told me that I didn’t receive a costume award, but the judges liked my costume so well that they wanted me to stay to receive an Honorable Mention. I did, and when I leaped off the stage after receiving it, one of my friends snapped a photo of me that I thought was amazing - I couldn’t believe she actually got a photo like that.

Here are some of the photos from the pre and post race, and I have posted my favorite one and a few more in the photo center.

Hi TW, I wish I could have been there, too! Not during....just before or after the race lol! I'm glad your costume got some recognition!

And to think....it started here, with your smartass manager....
