Everyone here seems to agree that honesty is the best policy when it comes to personal ads. But, would you answer these ads? I found them in my local newspaper. I feel the people who wrote them are being totally honest:
A REAL NICE WOMAN SWF 56, 5'1", 350 lbs, grandmother of three, looking for a SB/WM, 46-66, who can appreciate a big woman, will respect me and treat me well.
LOOKING FOR YOU SWF, 5'2", 200lbs, well-proportioned, grandmother, likes playing cards, fishing, barbecues, parties, quiet times with my family. Looking for a tall, sincere, fun-loving, muscular man 50-70, with similar interests.
VIETNAM VET SWM 57, with hearing disability, seeks understanding SW/HF, 50-57, who will accept me the way I am.
INTELLIGENT, NICE GUY SWM, heavy smoker, looking for a cute, humorous SF, 21-60, with good sense of humor. Open to possibility of LTR.
I would reply to the vet, if he were in my age range. I would not reply to the guy who really wants a young chick. He will not be happy with anyone near his own age.
I saw the profile of a 69 year old guy on a dating site that said, 'I think I would fit best with a woman 10 to 15 years younger than me.' Riiiiiighttttt. He is exactly what some 55 year old woman is looking for - a 70 year old fart who lives alone out in the wilderness and whose sole interests are fishing and hunting. Go for it, dude!
There are certain words that stand out immediately in each of these ads. #1&2 it's the weight, #3 it's "disability" and #4 it's "heavy smoker". Based on those words I don't think I would respond to any of those ads. But, the point is these people are being totally honest in describing themselves which I give them credit for. But, realistically how many responses do you think each will get?
I think they will get a fair number of responses. I wouldn't reply to the heavy smoker but that's my personal preference. I might look up the Vet just because he is being honest. That's a big plus in my book.
I don't mind a few extra pounds - acutally prefer a stock build - but I generally find that heavier men can't keep up with me in energy level because of health problems brought on by weight.
I smoke so the smoking doens't bother me - heavy does - and so does the "cute".
The vet is the most likely but I've concluded I like younger men. I also have a problem with seeks understanding - lots of baggage?
As a "larger" woman, there are men out there that prefer us, so they probably will get responses. The vet may have more wrong than the hearing issue because he needs someone "understanding". To me, that suggests there are more issues. Because I hate, and I mean HATE, smoking, I would pass by this guy completely. But as Mal points out, she smokes so there are women out there that will respond.
I'm a person who can't hear out of one of my ears, have had joint replacements, am on s.s. diability, Arthritic as all hell, bad teeth due to r.a., Socialist, Old hippie and medical Marijuana user. Why can't I get a date?;) I'm not overweight and don't smoke tobacco, at least
Gee, Warm, you sound like every gal's dream date. However, not overweight, and don't smoke terbaccy? Hmmmm. Maybe we can work something out here. As long as you are willing to share your medical MJ. Strictly for medicinal purposes, you understand. (cough cough).
My best guess on the vet who needs understanding is that maybe he is still struggling with PTSD. Lots of that, especially in my age range. And perhaps non-functional equipment because of it. That PTSD can be pretty tough on a relationship.
Nope, I wouldn't answer to any of these ads. I don't like heavy men, I hate smoking, can't stand smoke, and I'm looking for a healthy and active guy who will share many outdoors activities with me. So, I know, it's going to be hard to find the right man for me.. that's O.K., though.
