New Pet.

My daughter , who lives with me, got a new pet yesterday. He is a Great Dane-Catahoula (Sp?) mix. He is deaf. My daughter is a Speech Therapist, so she is very comfortable with the fact. The dog is three years old and well trained. I'm the one who has to get used to his not being able to hear me. He is already learning not to jump up on my lap, for which I am grateful, being the size he is.
Do any of you have experience with a deaf dog?

With deaf dogs, no, but my wife has experience dealing with her deaf husband. :^)

Not personally. I do know it runs in Dalmations. I would imagine his other senses are increased like smell and touch to compensate for his hearing loss.

Deafness runs in Catahoulas too. I did not know that before. Fleetwood, our pet, was born deaf. And you are right, KULPN, his other senses are very sharp. I notice he feels vibrations very well. Ron and Sherry, you are both funny.

U had to "goggle" the bred. Had never heard of it. Some interesting looking dogs :) Enjoy your new family member.
