It's March 1 and spring is just around the corner for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Trust me, it really is.
Today we have a good supply of wonderful cinnamon rolls for those of you with a sweet tooth. The coffee is rich and strong as usual, so pull up a chair.
How many of you are going into withdrawal now that the Olympics are over? What a finish!
Today is our 7th wedding anniversary. So, we are still newlyweds. Right?
Happy Anniversary, Bugman. You are indeed newlyweds. Any big plans for the day?
Yes, there will be withdrawal after the Olympics. It was great to have so many uplifting conversations about the Olympics instead of the doom and gloom about the economy, healthcare, etc, etc. Did you see the great piece that Tom Brocaw did on Gander Canada, the place where 700 jets had to land on 9-11 and the wonder people of that town? It was on Saturday afternoon and it was fascinating! Why doesn't the regular news ever report on things like that?
The sun is kind of shining today; so hopefully I can get out and take a nice long walk. It looks like March is coming in like a lamb in this part of the woods. Yesterday we got stuck in the snow getting the car out of the garage! My husband was so upset with himself, but I told him to stop and listen. For the first time in I don't know how many months, the birds were just singing away. Yes, indeed, I think Spring is finally on its way. Yea!!!!!
We haven't decided what we will do today. Our cruise was the big event for both our birthdays and anniversary. We might go to a movie.
I missed the Tom Brocaw piece, but seem to remember him mentioning it early in the Olympics. It is a shame the news can't come up with more upbeat things like that.
I'm glad you and your husband were able to find something good about getting stuck. Yes, spring is on the way.
Happy anniversary, bugman! I'm curious, how did you pick March 1 for your wedding? We picked Feb. 26 because it was 2 months from when Bruce proposed on Christmas Eve, giving me enough time to make my dress and his sister's (my maid of honor).
Yes, I saw that fascinating piece on Gander. Their finding out about the Trade Center brought back the same emotions I felt back then, but it was great to see the care and bonding that was happening at Gander.
It's still dark here at 5:38 a.m. but it seems that March is like a lamb--just a bit chilly lamb, at 26 degrees. We could still get plenty of snow this month and maybe into April. We have a couple of feet of it on the ground, and the berms are 4 feet tall along our street. Nice to hear about the birds. Jan, you sound like me, reminding your husband of what's good with the world.
Valley, you and I are so much alike in so many ways, that it is amazing! We must be long lost sisters or something. Are you coming to Michigan again any time soon? We are in the early stages of discussing an Alaskan cruise if we can fit it in around Tom's treatment schedule.
Wow! You were busy between the engagement and wedding.
How did we pick March 1? That's a good question. We got engaged the previous October and had talked about a fall wedding. But, we decided that we just didn't want to wait that long. We decided that March 1 would put it between our birthdays and, very important, my daughter had spring break that week. With three dogs, three cats and a rabbit at that time we had to have someone to take care of the menagerie. Also, I had a conference in Phoenix right after the wedding. That gave us the excuse to head there for the honeymoon. (I didn't claim any reimbursement for the trip.) After a day and a half at the conference we headed to the Sedona area and made day trips from there to the Grand Canyon and the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest areas.
The Sunday evening after we returned my daughter announced that she was NOT going back to college. For quite a while we thought it was because of our marriage, but much later we came to realize that she was afraid she might lose her boyfriend being 5 hours away. She didn't lose him (he's now our son-in-law) and we all survived. I did lay down the law that if she didn't finish the semester she had to get a job. She did and a little later we found an apartment for her.
And here we thought we would have several weeks to settle into married life. We are now all the better for the experiences.
I'll be in Grand Rapids for a week or so starting in mid April, Jan. Maybe we can hike with your group? On April 23 we'll be heading out, riding with Bruce's sister and her husband from Michigan down to Georgia for a Smoky Mountain Elderhostel/Exploritas session.
Or maybe, bugman, your daughter just couldn't leave your precious animals! lol I'm glad it all worked out. Sedona and Grand Canyon--great places for a honeymoon! More people should see Sedona--awesome beauty!
I saw the piece on Gander. There was a spread in a magazine a short time after 9/11, but this was such a nice followup showing the lasting connections.
March came in like a lamb here....beautiful sunny day and supposed to get to 50 degrees. I can't decide if I want to wade through the slush and slop to get to where I can walk or just get my exercise at Jazzercise tonight.
It's 46 and sunny . . . now. We have a winter storm watch in effect for tonight and tomorrow. Probably rain mixed with snow tonight and snow tomorrow. So, is March coming in like a lamb or a lion???
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Afternoon coffee buds! We are just getting home & unpacking from a 3 day camping weekend. Only went 2 hours from home. Mac's family is Scotch/Irish & we went to the Scottish games of N Fl in Green Cove Springs. Saturday was cold & raining miserable weather, but a lot of the activities were under roof. There were many clans & bagpipe bands that marched. Lots of vendors selling Scottish apparel, jewlery & food. Speaking of food, does anyone have a recipe for Welch cookies? One of the vendors was selling several varities. They look more like a small pancake than a cookie. Tasted yummy!
Got some additional family history info & sights to check out geneology.
March is coming in like a lamb. It was in the mid 40s here at 7am & the sun is shining. It is up to 60 now. Kind of scars me, I sure hope March doesn't go out like a lion.
