i love alpaca yarn from suri. I made a scarf adding cotton yarn for strength. i gave it away for xmas.
I am just starting to use nice yarns. When I began crocheting years ago all I could afford was the cheap stuff. Now I can afford the nicer yarns and I am really enjoying exploring them!
This weekend I visited a LYS looking for a skein of Noro Sock Yarn to start the scarf that webserf posted the link to last month. I purchased a skein with a colorway that contains purple,.gold, turquoise gray and green. I am anxious to get started; but, I want to finish the first panel of the kitchen curtains that I started a couple of weeks ago. The yarn is a wool, silk, nylon and mohair blend. A bit scratchy but I already knew that. I will rinse the final scarf with the conditioner I use on my hair.
I also picked up a skein of a local hand dyed sock yarn in a merino superwash, nylon blend. The color way is called Bird of Paradise and is a green, teal blend.
I would really encourage everyone to at least visit a LYS to see what is out there. While I still will use yarns from the big box stores, I am finding that if I am going to invest lots of my time and effort the cost of the yarn is the smallest portion of that investment and I would rather have an incredible finished product.\
Hi Hello That last statement IrisLady i agree with....if u r going to invest time, the cost of the yarn is the least. Knitting and crocheting does take along time and is a heirloom. Bumbi
