Rinso White and Rinso Blue, oleomargarine (the stuff that was white with a little pat of red stuff that turned the oleo yellow when mixed in), Ranger Joe cereal, tuti fruiti ice cream,
Ipana toothpaste and have not seen Brylcream in years.
My mom used blueing. And I remember her mixing the coloring into the margarine. Before it was mixed it looked like Crisco. Yuk!!! There were laws that margarine wasn't supposed to be sold colored yellow so it looked like real butter.
Remember the Burma Shave Signs? I used to love to read them when we were out driving. Didn't know anybody who used Burma Shave though.
When we had slumber parties we would call people up and ask, "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" If they said "yes" - you said "You'd better let him out" Or maybe it was Prince Edward - I forget.
More sodas... how about MOXIE? Anyone remember that foul tasting concoction; supposed to make you healthier. My dad used to order Lemon Phosphates at the drug store lunch counter.
And, of course I meant Prince Albert! Sorry, georgia.
Everyday products like Ozydol detergent, Pepsodent toothpaste, Fels Naptha soap and LAN hair cream (with lanolin) are hard to find anymore.
At the A & P store where we shopped: In addition to 8 'o clock coffee ( which is still sold all over), there was a med. blend, Red Circle and a heartier, Bocar! Own Own Tea, Ann Page Products and the Woman's Day magazine were regular purchases. Cheese was cut, wrapped and weighed in the store's dairy department and coffee was ground to order, also. Cigarettes by the pack, 6 pack or carton were sold at that department too. I know because I worked the dairy counter for years while in HS and college.
Prince Albert (pipe tobacco).
I kinda miss Space Food Sticks, myself. They tasted like nothing on God's green Earth (which was the point!) but they were easy to carry and provided a quick burst of energy which was just the thing for long bike rides.
re sarsaparilla: I've seen it on occasion--a couple of the companies that make high-end priced soda pops (the ones that still come in glass bottles) make it, and it's usually with their root beers on the store shelves.
The Vermont Country Store is a good source for some of those good old brands, too--the original orange-red Lifebuoy soap, for instance.

Remember penny candy? Sometimes scooped out of a barrel or even sold by the pound. And what about the cereals always containing a prize like a plastic ring or a tiny top you could spin?
I got my secret decoder ring in a cereal box, as I remember.
Here's a link to the "land of lost things," the Vermont Country Store. Surprising how many old brand candies, soaps, etc., still exist and are available!
