Never liked the guy and his high pitched voice. I fell asleep during the "Apollo whatever".

Every movie I see with him in it, I start off not not being enthralled, but, at the end I'm always pretty much amazed. Forrest Gump spoke to an audience which is pretty much ignored, They heard and that movie alone has made a profound difference in the lives and the self esteem of many, many people!

I love that movie, but I only watched it once because it made me cry so hard. I like Tom Hanks also. I believe deep down he's a truly good person, which in Hollywood, seems to be a rare quality.

Tom Hanks is this generation's Jimmy Stewart, which is far from being a bad thing. I like him a lot, he is not the stereotypical camera-hogging celeb and he went to school in the Bay Area of CA, not that far from where I used to live so "local boy makes (way) good!!!"

If the definition of a great actor is that you watch him in a movie and you see the character and not the actor playing him - then Tom Hanks is probably a close to great actor.

I've never seen him play a truly evil person - that would be a stretch part for him, he's so very likable - I think he could do it if somebody would be brave enough to cast him.

Most actors become type cast early in their careers. I can't see Harrison Ford or Tom Hanks ever being cast as the most evil bad guy of their time. Some actors are just naturals at it. Anthony Hopkins is the sort of fella that can go either way but there aren't many who come to mind who can or do. Tom Cruise has a plastic grin. Dustin Hoffman has done a variety of stuff. Sean Connery....well.....he is who he is? Why has bad luck always followed everybody who's ever played Superman?

I hadn't thought about that Superman thing until just now when you asked, JoyBoy. That is kind of creepy....

I liked Tom Hanks in Cast Away and Saving Private Ryan.

Tom Hanks is a great actor. One good example is the scene when Forest Gump realizes that he is the father of Jennie's boy and wonders if the kid is like him.
