The day after detection of another civilization is confirmed, past reports of UFO's, alien abductions and other contacts will be intensely reviewed. Depending on the panic of those investigating, some of those debriefings will be done by chain saw and blow torch.
As convinced as I am all this is certain to happen by 2030, I'm happy to report that I have never had a close encounter. I distrust chain saws even when I'm the one using them.
I have always hoped that the discovery of an alien civilization from the stars would, after the initial panic, make humans feel more alike, more united, more one race, than we do now. But I'm not holding my breath.
Even in the face of a visit from big green super-intelligent, space-faring blobs, I'm afraid that some human groups will continue to hate and even kill other human groups because they are "different".
