How did THIS happen

I got an invitation to a retirement party. It's for my niece's husband! How did the next generation get to go first? She isn't even my oldest niece/nephew. She's the fourth!
Well, as an email I received the other day said, after Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!

Lots of companies are offering 'early out' retirements in an effort to downsize in this economy. Perhaps that what has happened in your niece's husband's case.

sorry jg, it was just rude of them to mention it! I'll bet they are even looking for a retirement gift! Absolutly shameless!

Do you think the stuff falling today will still be here next Friday CG? Or is there another storm coming I don't even know about yet...good thing I'm resilient-huh? ;-).

Tess, he's a police sargent (for a few more weeks). He's earned the retirement, and will do home repairs/renovations to stay busy. I may even have a few projects for him here. (I won't get to have the fun byrd does though since he's married to my niece.)

It still blows my mind that he can do that in his 40's.

another bright side...he'll be in a "retirement" home before you, jg..but, I am totally with you on this one..How did this happen??? as someone who will prolly have to take a sick day to go to my own funeral, I just figger I did something very, very wrong..

LOD-love it...a sick day to go to your own funeral...I guess you will be required to train your replacement before you go too.

Just for some perspective, my brother is an attorney and will no doubt have to work until his mid 60's to afford retirement. Something went wrong somewhere along the way...

Maybe its what kind of a retirement you want? We both retired, actually more the once.... But for the three of us to do what we enjoy, I am again working part time. (No sympathy required, I don't work that hard!) So the best I can come up with is semi-retirement...and I see many doing the same.

He will too I guess although he's good at the home renovation thing so he may end up with a full time second career.

At the risk of turning this political, I believe health care benefits have a ton to do with it.

JG...home renovations/repair can be very lucrative...so he's in a 'semi-retirement' state, then?
