New here!

Hello,
I came upon this group when I met SydneyLynn as the new moderator for another group. Her post on fingerless gloves led me to Sewing and Crafts.
I feel right at home here! Helloand stay warm to my New York friends. I am in Wayne County, between Rochester and Syracuse. We butt up to Lake Ontario and get our most interesting winter weather from there. Also a big hello to all the east coast folks. Are you being hit by the big storm? From somebody living right smack dab in the "persitent squall area" I can only say: stay inside, knit something, or sew something or bake cookies.
I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing good projects.
I am mainly a spinner and knitter. I manage a group on Eons, The Spinning Wheel Club. Check it out sometimes.
I also dismantle knitted items ( from VOA or Salvation army) ad make other things from them.

I am avery early morning riser ( 3 am weekdays), live in the country. I work 2 jobs and have 2 dogs and four cats.

Talk to you soon,
Wollhexe

You really do live in the thick of things, don't you? One day I may live in Virginia because California is just getting too hard to bare any more. I live in Northern California where the summer is HOT (100-113) and the winter is pretty darn foggy. My love of crafts and baking, cooking and hiking keeps me busy besides holding down a full time job which has a LOT of driving involved. Glad you joined Wollhexe. I am heading over to check out the spinning group, even though I know nothing about it. My mom has a contraption like this picture (not her's shown).

Hi SidneyLynn,

Your mom has a beautiful skein winder. I have one just like it. Once you have spun yarn on the spinning wheel, you would wind off the yarn onto one of those to make a skein . There is more information at the Spinning Wheel site. Many people think these are spinning wheels, but you cannot put a twist on the wool with this winder, no matter how much you try. :-)

It is getting colder outside. I have to go out and buy stuff for cookies and cat food.

See you all later!

Wow...a skein winder. I don't do anything with spinning yarn or making skeins.

I have to make cookies and fudge and maybe English Muffin Loaf bread for my neighbors. So, I will be heading to the store, also. But it's only 6:20 AM here.

Welcome, Wollhexe. Great to have you with us.

You get up at 3 AM? What the heck for? I believe if we were meant to get up before dawn, we would have been born without eyelids. bwahahaha

I have always been "early to bed and early to rise" . It's just ME. But, NO, not at 3 AM. Between 4 and 5. But I go to bed at 9:30 or 10:00. I like my eyelids, thank you. bwahahaha

Hey....you get up just as Im usually going to bed! Needless to say Im not a "morning person". My Aunt and Uncle lived in Cleveland, Ohio for years and I've heard many a story about how they would get snowed in and how they would keep busy doing crafts. Uncle was a Master Woodcarver and painted. My Aunt was a knitter and made jewelry out of wood chips from Uncles carvings. I can fully understand why there is a flock of "crafters" in the Northern States. You have to do something are get cabin crazy! After all there is just so much sleeping anybody can do after a point.

Well, 3 am just happens to be the ideal time to get my housework done, yake care of the pets and do a little spinning. I am out the door at 4:50 am, drive 25 minutes to Dunkin Donuts, meet with the usual circle of friends there. Have coffee, discuss life, families and more and more our health ( the oldest person there is 82 and walks everywhere)
Then I drive farther to my first job to start around 5:50a, where I am a database administrator, work to 9:50a, back to my other, full time job in the same town as where I live.
Work to 5:45 P, go home.
Let me admit, that I have not watched one episode of House or Bones all the way through since the shows started up this season. Makes summer reruns just like new for me! It is better when it stays light longer. Then I garden.
So you see, I have my life set up to give me a maximum of efficiency and enjoyment.
I should probably mention that I live alone.
With 2 little dogs who can tell time. At 8 PM they run around in circles, barking, which means Get up and Go to bed.
Unfortunately, they don't understand the concept of weekends. Big sigh!
Right now, I am starting on baby socks in yellow wool, for my new GD, Lia. I use mainly wool, much of it homespun.

With many regards,

SidneyLunn or other list managers:
Is it ok to post links to subscription sites? I get the most adorable and useful craft ideas from places such as as Caron yarns, Simply Knitting and others. Some offer free pattern book downloads.
All require that you subscribe to their newsletters ( no cost, of course)
Please let me know before I post those links.

I am the manager of this group, Wollhexe, and you can post links to any site, subscription, or no, as long as you do not have a monetary/financial interest or connection with that site.

So, post away.
