Idiotic drivers are not just at the mall

I went to the Post Office to mail a package and a few cards. When I pulled into the very large and open parking lot, first some old coot just gunned it and backed out right at me! I honked the horn, but he kept coming, then I laid on the horn, and he finally stopped! Then, as he pulled out of a handicapped spot, I went forward to a regular spot, and some other moron passed me! He got the horn too. Then I pulled up next to him and got out of his car. He said, 'Change you mind?' I said, ....'uh...about what?'. He said that he passed me because I was headed into that handicapped spot, and I said that I wasn't, I was really just honking my horn so the guy backing out wouldn't hit me. Then, he said, 'Yea, whatever lady'. Them's fightin' words.

He got in line in the Post Office, with me behind him. Soon another guy got in line behind me and he said, 'Boy, glad you got in here in one piece. First some idiot tries to back into you, and then another one nearly side-swipes you driving in the wrong lane while you're trying to let the first idiot know he's about to hit you.' Before I had a chance to say anything, he said, 'Well, looks like Friday is moron day at the Post Office.'.....thanks man.

You know what, I have felt the same way about these drivers.
But, I try not to get too upset about it. IT'S NOT EASY!
If you think about it, I bet that when you came out of the Post Office, did anyone hold the door for you? And if so, did you say thank-you?

We including ME, seem to change our personality when we get behind the wheel, but I imagine the man who was so rude to you would not act that way if he were walking & saw that you were going to pass him.

I could be wrong. As I have been on many occasions!!

The thing I worry about is older drivers. I hope and pray I will know when it is time to hang up my keys. (I'm 70) We had on the news that, in this area, an 83 yr old woman pulling up behind a stopped school bus with lights flashing, seemed to be confused and hit the gas instead of the brake and ran up on the sidewalk to avoid hitting the bus. She hit a little girl who later died. The child's mother, who had come to meet the bus, was standing right there.

Then today, I got a Christmas card from a cousin and his wife who said an 87 yr old man ran a stop sign and hit them. They have recovered - but both woke up from being unconcious in the emergency room. Their beloved golden retriever was killed.

I don't want to stop driving yet - I have a good driving record - but I hope I know when it is time. Scary.

I already told my son and daughters to take the keys away from me when it is time. Actually, my father did it on his own when he felt he could not drive anymore. I hope I'm as smart as he was.

I saw an old geezer going up an exit to the freeway a while back. Fortunately, it was a very busy exit and people behind him and the cars coming off the freeway all blew their horns at him. It made him nervous and he stalled his car. I hope he had a moment of clarity and backed down the exit. I don't understand when older people know a lot of traffic is confusing to them, why they try to drive in congested areas between 12:00 pm and 1:00pm when people who are working are in a hurry to get somewhere. What a terrible combination.

This morning I had to drop by the office for a while, a mere 1.5 mile from home, first drive this season with snow on the ground, and they hadn't yet salted it either, but the (rear-drive!) car was excellent as usual, and the fact that there were next to no drivers on the road was welcome too.

Some people drive well into their 90s and even beyond 100. As long as they are aware of their limitations...

I am no tlooking forward to doing my weekly shopping (groceries) a few hours from now. This is our first day of real snow on the ground since last winter, and the klutzes will be out in force..

Plus I have a bad cold or flu since last Tue, and that sure impairs my own driving...

Mich, I think you are a "lunatic magnet"....where do they all come from?

Wellinformed, steer clear of the SUVs, they're invincible in inclement weather....or so they think! You are brave driving rear wheel drive in bad weather...unless you live in the 'flatlands". You couldn't do that in the mountains of the northeast or you'd spend most of your time sideways. You just reminded me of why I really didn't get my dream Jaguar!
