I Understand This Reaction

The Health Care Bill has become such a watered down, at cross purposes mess IMO, that this article pretty much wraps up my feelings. That Howard Dean is doing the talking might make other people look twice. view link

WASHINGTON – Former Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean argued Wednesday that the health care overhaul bill taking shape in the Senate further empowers private insurers at the expense of consumer choice.

"You will be forced to buy insurance. If you don't, you'll pay a fine," said Dean, a physician. "It's an insurance company bailout." Interviewed on ABC's "Good Morning America," he said the bill has some good provisions, "but there has to be a line beyond which you think the bill is bad for the country."

"This is an insurance company's dream," the former Democratic presidential candidate said. "This is the Washington scramble, and it's a shame."

Dean asserted that the Senate's health care bill would not prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage for preexisting conditions and he also said it would allow the industry to charge older people far more than others for premiums. (more at link)

Were you really expecting anything else , Lolly ? I have said from day one that I didn't know exactly what the final form of this fiasco would be , but I was sure that it would take care of the insurance companies, big pharma , and the lawyers and would end up costing the taxpayers a LOT of money .

I absolutely agree with Dean.

Dirck, I think that's why the other day when there was a thread asking: Are you realistic or cynical? It's so often the same thing.

I'm cynical with no trust in authority but the idealist in me still hopes until the last minute. I keep hoping that with the whole country watching, the greedy bastards won't get away with it again.

Yes, I do spend a good bit of time disillusioned.

I've seen it coming all along. Several months ago I made the statement that if the bill were passes, I hoped that the President would veto the thing and send it back with a big red F for Failed.

Okay, I didn't really say "a big red F for Failed" on that date when it was still warm outside, but that was what I meant.

Damn, but I hate it when I hit the 's' instead of the 'd' and the spellchecker isn't reading my mind.

I haven't given up. I email my senators every day. Not that that matters much.

We may need a massive effort to get Obama not to sign it if it's truly worthless.

Then there is the reaction in the Senate. view link (from the end of the article)
At its core, the legislation is designed to spread coverage to 30 million Americans who now lack it, impose new consumer-friendly regulations on the insurance industry and try to slow the rate of growth in health care spending. Most Americans would be required to purchase insurance, and the government would establish new insurance supermarkets called "exchanges" through which consumers could shop for policies.

Large companies would not face a requirement to cover their employees. But the government would impose charges if any of them did not do so and any of their workers qualified for federal subsidies to help them afford private coverage.

Lolly here. Passing this boondoggle just to get it into the history books is a bunch of BS. The chunks are in place for the insurance companies and the people get the thin, watery, tasteless but you're paying for it so you gotta eat it broth.

I am so sick of hearing about this health care BS....we all should have known from the start that it would never result in anything worthwhile.

I had a hunch but hoped that something would overcome the ineptness of our government.

I guess I expected Mr. Obama to be able to do some of that he promised in his campaign. I blame him for not being more pro-active in this health care debacle. He did say he was going to be able to bring all sides together in order to get government moving......campaign rhetoric is different than real life...he found out I guess.
