While other manufacturers are cutting back development on new sportbikes, the German manufacturer, previously known for fast cars and sleepy motorcycles, has unveiled what is possibly the fastest superbike on the planet.

BMW: At 193 horsepower, BMW's new S1000RR is the most powerful production 1,000-cubic-centimetre superbike. It may also be the easiest to ride thanks to its sophisticated Dynamic Traction Control system that prevents wheelspin while cornering. It's a complex compilation of sensors and actuators that measures, among other things, lean angle and the speed of both wheels. Three of the four available modes -- sport, race andslick-- offer the full 193-hp experience with differing levels of electronic reticence through the electronic throttle. BMW Canada also includes its race ABS in the S1000RR's $17,300 asking price.

I know it's not in the same league as the S1000RR, but I'm also very impressed with the K1300S, ( view link ), probably heavier and a more sedate, not really a race bike, but still a very impressive, beautiful bike....and a little too much bike for the likes of me.

while being a honda man from way back i think the choice is well made. the bike did very well for a 1st season bike in world super bike competition. the engine contains many tricks bwm has learned in formula racing and adapted to a motorcycle. it is a breakthrough design on par with the introduction of the 1969 honda cb750 k0. and the price is absolutely dirt cheap for that much technology!!!!!!!!

Interesting VW buys the GSXR one of the fastest 1000 cc bikes in the world and Beemer gors overboard in the same bracket. yes we are talking some serious fast bikes but I still like Boxers

i think this is going to make the horsepower wars of the 80's look like a kids game. no way will vw let bmw have the fastest bike. this is gonna be fun to watch!!!!
