Hey, it's just a zip code

I was checking out the 'Weatherbug' this morning thinking that by entering my zipcode I would get a really accurate forecast...and I would if there was a reporting station anywhere near me. I finally found out that the closest station is around 20 miles away. Ha ha ha ....hey, we have a middle school too...why can't we have a reporting station?

There seems to be something here the locals call the 'snowbands'. These are sweeping curves and if you are in the 'Big Rapids' band, as my house is, you will get a lot more snow than the nearest town. HUH? Well, it's totally true. When we had five inches of snow a few days ago, I drove into town, about 2.5 miles, and they had about two inches or less. They are in the 'Fremont' band. We must be right on the edge of it because sometime when there is about eight inches of snow on the road, there may be ten inches of snow in my yard, about 600 feet from the road.

Isn't weather interesting?

I am so glad that we get a little rain this time of year but NO SNOW. I hate snow. We had a little of the white stuff on the mountains but it only lasted a day or so and it is gone. Wind coming off those mountais is cold. I don't like the cold.

You bet it is. It was snowing on the south side of the Columbia River and sun on the north side for many miles. The clouds refused to cross the river-- I guess that's why it is called The Mighty Columbia.

Accuracy of weather forecasts is good fro a day or two but not for 5 and 10 days.

There is a thing called 'micro-climate' - it is the mini weather patterns of an area - We have one here too - Many times there is rain, snow or storms coming down I-70 and they 'split' just west of town and we get nothing. Then about 20 miles east of here the storms go back together and keep going east on I-70 - Wierd but then, so is the weather!
I find this fasinating and have a weather station in my yard - really enjoy it and it tells me exactly what is going on -
I personally think it is the hills and the deep valley we are in that causes the difference in the weather here. Really neat to study.

I got a weather station for my birthday last year but when I thought I would be moving soon I never set it up. I'll have to go out and do that. It has a bunch of stuff with it, and a wireless connection to its panel that's supposed to give me all kinds of information.

I used to live in a burg that had it's own micro-climate. More than once I drove home to see rain on one side of the street but not on the other. It was freeky.

Snow, it looks great on a postcard, and absolutely awful on the end of a shovel........

And I don't think to kindly of sleet either...........

Oh Michibilly I really enjoy my weather station - I knew I'd like it but never thought I would as much as I do. It's fasinating to keep watch on how quickly weather changes - I seen it rain in the front yard here this summer and not in the back! It was truly amazing to see! My grandson couldn't believe it - he was so surprised. It is amazing to study weather.

Both rain and snow are far more fun when you are inside the home in the evening than being out there subject to them. An overnight rain actually makes me sleep much more easily than no rain, and snow falling as seen from my 3-window and balcony door in my living room, with view of a small pond, trees, homes on the other side etc, can be very satisfying.

Snow in the woods is really pretty, especially at night when there is a full moon. I have a couple of small flood lights pointing down at the creek, and that is so peaceful and gorgeous when there is snow. Now, the shoveling....I don't enjoy that nearly as much.
