Being Stupid !

I sing and record a lot of Karaoke songs . I had bought a set of Creative headphones ($100) . They had USB connection and wouldn't work right on my new sound card . I got an idea . I had a cheep set of headphones that had the 3.5 mm plug in's . Well i cut the USB connection off . Then the cord from the other set . Bad Idea . I finally figured out , Ain't gonna work . Last night i ordered another pair of Creative headphones with the 3.5 mm plug in's from NewEgg . Cost $50 dollars with $20 dollars off . $30 dollars free shiping !

Had any one made such stupid mistakes ?

Can't say I have but have often thought about it.I have lost motherboards by trying some unorthodox tweaking.

I think i fried the mother board on my XP computer a while back . Must be the reason it won't boot . You don't mess with a Computer inside with the power still connected i guess .

And You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim,
(sorry, couldn't resist.)

Sound stuff can be tricky. There are all sorts of driver conflicts that you will never figure out. I got a device to copy music from a Tape Recorder to the computer. Wouldn't work on the desktop machine.
No problems on the Laptop. But the laptop doesn't have anywhere near the drivers on the desktop.
The moral is that if a sound device is expensive be sure you can return it.

I guess the dumbest thing I did was while soldering, in a crystal to get upper channels in a CB base radio, decided to listen to it, been ok if I'd left the power off..

It was back in the 23 channel days and it was known the FCC. was going to open up more frequency to give everyone 40 channels, we got the jump, on everybody and added a external box, that had a 6 way switch we would mount a crystal and get 4 more channels, I decided to add one one crystal, to use up all 6 positions, smoked a fine, highly tune base.. that was back in 1977or 76' I think..

honestjohn, i gad stopped a cb shop and asked if my radio could have talk back. the guy hooked a laptop to it. found what he was looking for and started to solder. he fried my cb and his laptop.

he gave me another cb, but it was trash compared to mine.

Did somebody mention soldering iron? I made a few mistakes there until I found out there are some components that you need to switch the soldering iron off before soldering.
