ATWT last episode Sept 2010

Got this from the CBS newletter:

ATWT to Broadcast its Final Episode

CBS's daytime drama AS THE WORLD TURNS will broadcast its final episode in September 2010. At the time of its final broadcast, the series will have spanned 54 years and more than 13,000 episodes. "It's extremely difficult to say good-bye to a long-running series that's been close to our hearts for so long," said Barbara Bloom, Senior Vice President, Daytime Programming. "The almanacs will show AS THE WORLD TURNS as a pioneer of the format, a hallmark for quality with its numerous Emmy's, the launching pad for many television and film stars and a daytime ratings powerhouse for parts of three decades. But, the true legacy of AS THE WORLD TURNS will be the fictional characters and stories of a small Midwest town that resonated every day with millions of viewers over multiple generations, becoming a treasured daytime institution in the process. We thank our partners at Procter & Gamble for the privilege of hosting this beloved series…the actors, writers, producers and crew who worked so hard and shared their amazing talents to bring this series to life...and, of course, the viewers who shared the journey on our network for so many years."

CBS does not love soap viewers anymore. Would have to switch to ABC but I may have to.

I heard that Procter and Gamble decided to pull its sponsorship of ATWT. That sponsorship was their largest source of funding. So, unless somebody else steps in to sponsor them, I don't think ATWT will be able to stay on. A lot can happen between now and Sept 2010....let's all hope somebody makes an offer to save the show. It's getting good.

I currently watch Y&R and ATWT. If ATWT goes, I may have to switch to another network, too. I need at least two shows to follow. I've always watched only CBS. So, it will be starting from ground zero trying to pick up on the characters and storylines.

This is too much after GL went off the air. I almost switched over to ATWT, but for this very reason I hesitated. It appears that CBS is invested in Y&R and B&B only and without Procter and Gamble, there probably is no other firm that will pour money into our believed shows. I am deepyly saddened, ladies and gents, deeply saddened by this news.

I will recommend OLTL and GH, but not AMC. The network just moved them out to LA and I do not understand why. They need new writers, not a new studio! ATWT is so much better, so who is making these dumb decisions? Not the viewers that is quite obvious.
