JUST PONDERING..DO ALL STATES HAVE A STATE BIRD???

I don't know why, but this thought just popped into my head. Maybe it was the Roadrunner that was pecking at my sliding glass door today.

Do all states have a state bird???? What is your state's bird??? Why was that bird picked to represent your state???

Illinois' state bird is the Cardinal. The story that I heard is that schoolchildren chose it...not sure if that's true. I believe it's also the state bird of several other states. It's such a beautiful bird...and red is my favorite color!

Yes, and flower and mineral too i think. But for the birds at least it isn't 50 different species...Mockingbird and Cardinal claimed by more than one state.

Wyoming's is the Western Meadowlark.

Below is a link to a page that has images of each state's bird, listed alphabeticlly.

As sasysatin beat me to saying our state bird is the goldfinch. I used to see a lot of them when I lived in the western part of the state but I don't see any here. Maybe the bird for this part of the state should be the herring gull. Someone (probably from New York) once told me NJ's state bird should be the mosquito.

In Utah we cherish the seagull. I think it's the California Seagull. You might recall that the bird once saved Mormon pioneer crops form ravenous grasshoppers

Alabamas state bird is the Colaptes auratus, which we can't say, or the Northern Flicker, which we won't say, so we call it the Yellowhammer.

Washington's state bird is the Willow Goldfinch, so New Jersey is not alone in picking it.
