Google the word AVAST HOME. It works well and it's free.

What about AVG>>>???? Free also
AVG is good, but PCWorld just reviewed a bunch and gave the nod to AVIRA anti-virus as the best freebie. It had a better discovery rate (98.9%) than AVG, according to their tests.
Add to your christmas list the following:
SPybot Search and Destroy
SuperAntiSpyware
Malwarebytes
They are also free, and may be overkill, but each has strengths that the others don't.
If you want to stay safe on the web, run all of these every couple of days, and make sure that their list of definitions is always up to date.
Annoying? You betcha. But required, unfortunately.
And try not to use Internet Explorer. It's the largest target out there.

You want TOTAL security?
Don't plug your computer into the internet. NOTHING, is going to give you total security. YOU are the first step in your security, before any software program.

also, i would have ad-aware, spyware blaster. atf cleaner.
so what do I use in place of IE????
For the heck of it, I purged AVG and download Avira on one of my laptops. AVG ran a scan just before, and it came up clean. Avira found 2 infections and 3 warnings. Then I decided to do the same to the desktop. AVG - clean, Avira- 4 infections and 4 warnings. So, what do you think I did next? Yep, ran upstairs and hit the other laptop. AVG -clean, Avira 0 infections and 2 warnings. Think I'll stick with Avira. Thanks Pete.
Val,
thanks for shaking down Avira and being our Willing Beta testing site! Much appreciated!
WEagle - there are several other browser choices....Firefox, Safari for Windows, Google's Chrome for Windows, Opera are the most popular other 4. Of them, Firefox is the most widely used. So, yes, you "could" say that right behind Internet Explorer, Firefox is the next biggest browser target out there. But at least it ain't the biggest!

Ok, this was originally about a antivirus and I have an update on that.
I bought this desktop at Walmart and got their warranty which runs after the factory warranty runs out. So there was a one year free membership paid BitDefender. So I loaded it on and kept what I started with.
Now, I have seen things about google chrome. Does anyone here use it???
I used the Kaspersky's Internet Security system. It's one of the best around, updates constantly, and uses very little space. It's $50.00 at Wal Mart and you can use it on 3 computers. I have used it for years and am more than satisfied with it.
