Response to Moderator

In response to your closing of my posting, I have to say that I resent being censored because you don't like the subject of my posting. This group is supposed to be about all things British and therefore, I see no reason why an article about the apparently hostility of the President of the USA towards the UK is not a perfectly legitimate subject for commentary. I'm sorry that the implied criticism of of Mr. Obama offends your delicate sensibilities, but the world is not all sweetness and love. I prefer to deal in reality rather than the illusions that you apparently wish to dictate. People have a right to know how the President of the USA treats this nation's closest ally - especially people who are interested in All Things British!

I do believe that we all have our own opinions on the subject, and also we know that the world is not all sweetness and light. However, I do believe in censorship when a post is made in the wrong group. There are plenty of places to air your feelings in political groups. There is more to both the USA and Great Britain than politics. I do not personally believe Mr Obama has slighted Great Britain any more than any other president has, if he has or does then its for him to sort out, nothing I can do about it personally and maybe thats not what you want to hear but it is the way it is here in this group. I am leaving my response to you here for all to see............if anyone cares to respond they may certainly do so.
I do not encourage politics, most Americans would not share my opinions and so I do not share them here. Its not what this group is about. If your other posts on simular subjects had been well recieved then maybe I would let it go but thats not what has happened in the past. In fact I had people leave the group because of it...................as I said, this is not the forum you need to share your ideas on that subject.

OK, I understand: only milktoast views which which could not possibly offend anyone are acceptable to you. Certainly, there is more to the USA and Britain than politics, but since the USA and UK are the two greatest democracies in the world, politics surely has its place in civil discourse. Be honest, your objection is that you disagree with the views expressed which has become a characteristic of many liberals, namely, suppression of contrary views..

You may be interested to know that the article I posted was originally published in the Daily Telegraph, one of Britain best newspapers.

So what? I could care less I suppose what newspaper it was published in. I am not a liberal and I have no clue to other peoples politics in here. I happen to like Obama (the man)........I suppose if you must know when I actually lived in England my father was a "Labour Party" man. I took no interest in politics and disagreed with most of his thoughts at that time. Since coming to the states though I have found myself more and more believing in the things and values that he did. Not this modern day labour party mind you, the good old socialist one. I believe as in most things I am moderate if that interests you.
If politics could be discussed in a friendly way I would be all for it, just not in this group. Its just not what its about.........we talk about the country, its past, its treasure, its people, the different places and its beauty. Food, culture and traditions. Me......I am all into the history but thats not popular here either for the most part although I keep trying haha, but thats fine by me, I have a group called "Archeology and History" that I can indulge myself in. So with politics if I want to spout off my opinions and get a rise out of someone I go to "Freedom of Speech" and have a go at my friend Fly.
So its not a slight against you tc1000 its just the way it is......as I said before, no one was interested in the type of posts you did before and some were offended and left. I prefer to keep my friends happy if I can.

The point that the Manager of this site is trying to make is that there is a time and place for political agendas, just not in this particular group. This is a social network aimed at binding people together who have shared and similar interests. There are, I am sure, many other groups that would welcome your political opinions and input. Sadly, it appears that views on politics and religion seem to cause dissension than is not productive.I suggest you try them. Good luck.

Thank you Espirit! I agree! Not the place for politics. British or otherwise! This is a group about all things British yes. But not a political forum. I for one do not care to discuss politics here. And im sure im not the only one.

In fact, I started another group called "America the Beautiful" .....I was so sick of how everyone was tearing each other down in the political forums during the elections that I wanted a rest from it all. I thought that if everyone from all sides would share the beauty of this country (USA) then they would get along and put all that aside for a time.............so it is in here, a rest from all of that stress if we can manage that. So far we seem to be doing well even if it is "milktoast" haha.

Agree with E. This group is not about politics or debates.

I agree with her as well. There are so many lively groups on eons who would welcome
political debate. It's a peaceful thoughtful atmosphere we have cultivated in All Things
British and we plan to keep it that way.

But the bottom line is that Espirit is the owner/moderator and can close any post she
decides to so please respect her. She started this group less than 2 years ago and it
has grown and evolved into a wonderful site due in no small part to her hard work and
dedication. We like it the way it is.

Thanks, TC and have a wonderful Christmas and if you don't celebrate Christmas just
take a deep breath that day, go for a walk, read a book. Just kick back and look at all
the good around you. opk
