Spend my teenage years at least from 18-18 at drive in every Sat night. We still have one about an hours drive from here that is opened in the Summer time. It is near a State park but I have never been there to see a movie. Not sure I would like them as much as I did when I was a teenager.

Yup, sure doooooooooooo. There is a Red Carpet Tour of Route 66 in the state of IL every yr. The tour started at the Route 66 Museum in Down Town Joliet and goes through all the towns on or along RT 66 in the state of IL. We started at the museum with aprox 30 Corvettes and meandered down RT 66 stopping at all the towns along the way. The Red Carpet Tour had a handout map which listed all the towns along the way with listings of things to do or see in each of those towns.

It was two days of nostalgia, fun, and a step back in history! Having done that last yr. we have a better grasp of where we want to go and stay, along with all the good restaurants to visit! Need to loose 10 - 15 lbs before the touring season begins again!

Even when you both WANTED to be alone - you were NEVER alone at a drive-in -- now they use drive-ins in Florida as DRIVE-IN CHURCHES!!

AMAZING!

I did enjoy them. Too bad they went by the wayside.

I answered in the other post, but will do here just so others can read it. My parents took myself and my 2 sisters since I was very young. They probably couldn't afford a babysitter. Loved paying in the play ground and going to the consession stand. Fell asleep in the back seat. Went to the local one til they tore it down to build a shopping center. I would go today if one was closer to me but not in the winter!!! I have fond memories of them, plus you could talk all you wanted and wouldn't disturbe anyone else.
Think I will take this post to Jersey Girls and see what they have to say. Thanks RolingCurlers

Drive-in theaters and car-hop restaurants, remember those too? Drive-In theaters were so much fun. Bob's Big Boy Restaurant had car-hops, then A&W. I think the burgers, fries and milkshakes tasted better when brought to the car by a car-hop. I don't miss drive-in's now, I like the new walk-in theaters here in Phoenix, very comfortable seats and beautiful theater, too expensive to eat at the theater now though.

I would love to go on that Route 66 tour, what great memories you must have every year.

no i dont miss either the car hop restaurant or the drivein, because we still have both. 2 car hops near by, with skating girls and all. and the last original drive in in the northeast, is less then 1/2 hour away.

for the teens its a totally different experience then for the adults. mid age young adults bring the kids and sit outside, near the playground. the kids play, and eat and they get some down time. old folks like me, just pull up a lounge yard chair, and a blanket, and sit outside and watch the movie. our drive in still has the things that attach to the car window. (most use a radio station). i just attach it to my chair. and since we are in the country, most people have pickups, where they sit and watch.

its packed every night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
