QUOTE OF THE DAY

"There is an important parallel between those who believe all criticism of Obama to be illegitimate and those on the Right who despise him without pause. The latter is every bit as personality-driven as the former: they despise Obama not for any specific policy decisions (often, those are aligned with their ostensible views), but because of personality caricatures they’ve adopted: he’s a narcissistic, vacant, Socialist Muslim and therefore nothing he does is right. That is simply the opposite side of the same coin as those who revere his personality and thus believe that nothing he does merits real criticism.

"That’s unsurprising, given that many of the most vehement Obama-haters were the same ones who most loved Bush and now love Palin: this is all about cultural identification and personality admiration and has nothing to do with the factors that ought to be used to judge political leaders."

The Presidents quotes listed below come from men that in office made great changes. They not only voiced their convictions, but acted on them. They knew that compomise, fear to make a stand, etc would not bring about the needed action. The last quote is from Obama, in 2006. We on the left< i think are asking him to do something he is just not capiblie to do. I maybe wrong - like we said he got his butt kick, maybe now he will fight.

The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government.
Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today - and in fact we have forgotten.
John F. Kennedy

What convinces is conviction. Believe in the argument you're advancing. If you don't you're as good as dead. The other person will sense that something isn't there, and no chain of reasoning, no matter how logical or elegant or brilliant, will win your case for you.
Lyndon B. Johnson

A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.'

Kennedy-- great changes? like what?

"We on the left< i think are asking him to do something he is just not capiblie to do."

You also are asking him to do something he did not promise to do. I say this again, he was about change in the way things are done-- he promised to break the stalemate that Washington has become. Note, none of the presidents you quoted was within the last 40 years. Because nothing positive has been done. This country had been stalled-- congress had been spending its time investigating wrong-doing, from Watergate to Monicagate. That's why O didn't want this congress to be diverted into investigating CheyneyBush, because there is soooo much to be done n this country. Indeed, a lot is being done. Please see my blog for about 100 positive accomplishments, to date-- not at all exhaustive. view link Once healthcsre is passed, he'll have accomplished more in less than a year, then most presidents have accomplished in 8 years. BTW, he is aggressively moving to reduce role of Lobbyists in government-- again, something no other president has been able to achieve. view link view link

President Obama is doing an excellent job. We must remember he is not a King, Emperor or dictator. He is head of the executive branch of government and he is using the authority he has to make much meeded changes in government. These changes are having a positive impact on the quality of life of everyday Americans as much as some of them want to deny it. We, local school board members, were singing his praises just today. Because of his "Race to the Top" initiative, we in Kentucky are poised to receive the financial boost we need to go forwerd in the field of education. Because of stimulus money we were able to retain staff and we even our school cafeteria received a grant to provide nutritional breakfast and lunch to our students. Obama is working to dispel the global image of the ugly American who thinks only of America and America's interests. Can he be everthing to everybody? No. Will he not ever make a mistake? No. Will the South rise again? No.
