We have lost of whole lots of tallent and abilities when you come to realize that half the country thinks a good meal comes from BK/MD's etc. I have seen the tallents of my wife in crossstich passed on from her side of the family only being picked up by 2 of her 8 kids. This is why you and I have talked about Herbal medicine, lots of knowledge has been forgotten and will be lost in future generations, Gate. Yes they knew how to really cook. Today "those old folks don't know nothing This ia a new world!!!!!!!" Right!!!!

I grew up with a grandmother who kept her wood stove until the day she died. Although she had an electric range, the wood stove still got used. Fried chicken in an iron skillet cooked on that stove is hard to beat. My love of cooking comes primarily from her, and I still make my biscuits with buttermilk and from scratch.

You know I think part of what made that food taste so good was it cooked over wood. I know when I cook over a camp fire it taste better too. I know some of them mountain folk will not cook over anything else. They have bought up all those old wood stoves. They are not just for show . They use them in there cabins. Some have electricity ran to the cabin but still they use wood. to cook. Wood makes a steak taste better. Maybe we are missing the boat with all these new fangled things, "as my grandma would have said"
