Good morning, silveradod, having grandchildren really does help make Christmas easier. It is hard to be sad when the little ones are so happy and so excited.
We took our 2 little darlings to see Santa yesterday. It didn't go well but one of them at least walked by him and sort of told him what she wanted. Santa can be scary for some little ones and my two both cried.
Another way to make the holidays more bearable is to do something charitable. I have always purchased toys and gifts in my son's memory for other children. My son was a very loving and caring young man and I've always thought that he would like me doing this.
Thanks - and warm wishes to you. I am working hard at that this Christmas also. My 9 year old granddaughter told me that her mom is missing her sister Rachel and not really into christmas this year. She said she feels ' guilty' because she is sad too, but is still 'excited' about christmas. (heartbreaking!) Only 9, but so thoughtful. Her and Rachel were very close.
I just hugged her and reminded her how much Rachel loved the holidays and would be upset if she was 'Not' excited about Christmas. I could tell how relieved hearing that made her. Sometimes it just takes so little, to make a difference.
I hope everyone finds some comfort this holiday season.

Yes, thank God for our children ...and our grandchildren. My step daughter knows Nov. and Dec. are hard months for me; the sadness and stress settles in my neck and back...and so she has been calling me more...just to talk...to talk about silly things her kids have done...or what she has accomplished - oh these talks mean so much! My daughter in laws also show their love to me - they always have, but maybe I see it more. My family is important all year long, but that little bit extra helps to make a difference. It is truly a blessing that you have grandchildren and daughters in law to share the Christmas spirit of your children.
I hold onto Damian's memories and all the times we shared. Those things alone get me over the Christmas Holidays. The more you learn about life the more you know how great He is!
