They take on a somber mood when they know I'm hurting. Maybe it's just because I'm not as interactive with them as usual. I know one thing, when I was in the hospital in '88, I couldn't WAIT to get home and see Buster! And he was every bit as happy to have me back as I was to see him.

The last time I was in the hospital I got a royal welcome when I got home. It really warms the heart to have such a grand welcome.
I didn't think humans could pass a disease to their birds. Is that possible?
Some of the respiratory diseases you can - according to my vet, Hannis Stoddard. That's why I'm very careful when I have a cold or flu.
I didn't know that, so thanks for the info. I had a cold sore 2 weeks ago and had to be very very careful with my little girl. I too am a hands on owner and love to give kisses to my little girl.
And she loves to eat what i'm eating......right out of my mouth.....which is a no no. But sometimes I can't help myself!
So, Dr. Stoddard is still practicing? He was our first avian vet, and a really great one at that.

Not only is still practicing, he's building a new hospital that will be open 24/7. What scares me is it's also going to cater to the wealthy owner - each animal will have it's own room and TV with other amenities. He's expensive enough as it is. He also owns Avid, the microchip company.
Well, I guess I can't blame him. The rich are getting richer, while the "middle class" is evaporating into oblivion. Why not aim for clients that can pay and pay well?

Because he's the only Avian certified vet in at least 2 counties and it's tough times for those who need the services of an avian certified vet? I didn't mind paying the higher prices for his expertise, but I'll be darned if I'm going to pay for a TV and other extravagances just because he wants to further pad his pockets. Don't know if I'll have a choice though. Too many birds are going to suffer because of this. People won't be getting their annual bird checks and likely won't be taking their birds in until it's too late. His office doesn't take payments - you pay in full at the time of service.
