An MA Woman in the Senate!!!

Yowza! FINALLY, Massachusetts will send a woman to the US Senate! Today was the special primary -- 4 Dems and 2 Pubs ran for the two ballot slots in a special election in January to fill Senator Ted's seat, but in MA, getting the Dem. nomination is tantamount to winning the election.

All the "good old boys" already in Congress (all but maybe one) endorsed their bud, Rep. Mike Capuano, who ran on a platform of "I'm a Ted Kennedy clone."

Martha Coakley is our Attorney General, and she declared her candidacy only about 10 days after the Senator's death, and without waiting to see if any of the next Kennedy generation was going to run -- something which reportedly irritated the Kennedy clan, but in the end, none of the Kennedys endorsed anyone.

Looks like Martha won with about 47-48% of the vote, Capuano trailing at 27%, and AP declared the race for Coakley less than an hour after the polls closed.

Hallelujah! I could've lived with Capuano, he's as liberal as it gets in Congress, but so is Martha Coakley that liberal, and we NEED more women in the Senate!

Congrats to Martha..........if she is that liberal she will honor the work of Edward M. Kennedy.
Here's a photo poster I made and a reminder of Ted's words.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched. Massachusetts sometimes turns Republican on a dime.

The field was a tough one. I was certain that Capuano would win . . . the political wonks were in favor of him and lots of people in the legal profession as well as the sons and daughters of lawyers were against Martha Coakley for being too much of a prosecutor. The Capuano camp will have to back Coakley.

I was kind of rooting for Capuano, don't know why except he seemed really sincere in his ad that Said He would NEVER send our troops to war without a good reason. NEVER. I just liked the way he said that, since I am so discouraged about the wars. I live next door in NH,so I couldn't vote. I hope Martha wins over the republican. If they dare replace Ted Kennedy's seat with a republican I will stop watching news forever!

I must admit that I hadn't completely made up my mind until I had the ballot paper in front of me.

I worry about Martha, like a lot of lawyers she gets a bit too pedantic at times and can loose the wood for the trees. Ted didn't let the quest for perfection get in the way of negotiating for the 90% that he knew he could achieve.

Pagliuca had some interesting ideas, but I can't get over that apparent chumminess with mendacious Mitt, I found myself being concerned about which way he'd break if Romney had another run for the presidency.

Capuano, just a little bit too much Washington establishment, could be just business as usual,

And on the other hand, Khazei, just too little experience at the moment.

So, I guess Martha gets it.
