Is Thrifty Relative??

I've been out of things for a while with flare-ups ofmy fibromyalgia but I just recently began to realize how relative words like frugal, thrifty etc. really are

Has anyone thought of that?

I have been doing a lot of research on thrifty web sites, etc., and have found this to be true. One person, for example, wrote about saving a thousand dollars o remodeling be doing some of the work herself.

Well, a thousand dollars is almost alien to me, especially for remodeling.

Does this make any sense????

I think it's relative, and I also think it's the same. Debt is debt - if it's more than 5% of your gross monthly income after rent/mortgage, it doesn't matter what the actual dollar amount is, it's still more than you can comfortably afford.

When I teach about financial literacy, I work with percentages, not dollars. It levels the playing field, and helps people realize that wherever they are on the continuum they share the same problem.

I think mostly about food and shelter no improvements just doing with what we have. That is the way it has to be what we get on SS isnt enough for more

I'm not on SS yet, but we are living that way too, we just concern ourselves with food and shelter.

I think thrifty is relative and I agree with Sammig's comments. Our thrifty-ness has ranged from saving thousands of dollars down to $1 here and there all in the same year. There are people who are multi-millionaires but made unthrifty, very unwise choices and are in foreclosure. Look at Nicholas Cage. Bottom line is people have got to manage money properly, be thrifty when and where they can, no matter what earnings category they are in. Billionaire Warren Buffet seems to live by that.

All I know is, I live on being thrifty and frugal. Call it what they will.
