Climate Bill: Republicans need to deal?

The Republicans were all set to block any climate bill from coming out of Congress. But today the EPA said that it already had the authority and cause for controlling GHGs.

So, if the Republicans want to prevent a Democratic administration from having the EPA do it alone, they have to get a Congressional Bill passed that would be less 'Democratic' than one the EPA would pass. At the margins, clear Congressional intent trumps Agency overreach.

Now, will the Republicans mitigate what they see as actions that are bad for America or will they play a political game? They can either make the legislation 'better' or they can let it be 'worse' and hope that they get some extra Congressional seats or industry contributions.

What kind of principals will the GOP show us?

"Principals"? I only see the lack thereof!

Does anyone really expect a political party to have Principals ???

For both sides it is always about gaining and maintaining power. Always has been, always will be.

Realizing this fact is the first step in gaining the advantages necessary to succeed.

You are wrong FW. Just compare the 2008 and 2009 stimulus bills. The 2008 one was primarily a 'Republican' bill because that was all that Bush would sign. It was heavy on lump sum tax cuts which people tended to save. The 2009 stimulus was primarily a 'Democratic' plan. It had personal tax cuts, but they were spread out over 2 years. It had stabilization money for state governments so that they wouldn't cut jobs. It had construction money to use slack resources, create jobs and get productive assets.

Republican 'principals' entail tax cuts, all the time for all ills. The Democrats are for good public policy; getting the most effective and efficient use of government expenditures.

So, the assumption is that Government expenditures are "Good", while Individuals using their money as they wish is "Wrong"...

Interesting.

Just because Obama via the EPA rolled the guillotine out in front of Congress, doesn't change
the balance of power? The dems still have a Super Majority! To use the republicans as an
excuse for any bill policy etc.. is laughable, they may as well go back to blaming Snow White
and throwing tomatoes at her,
lmao

Yes FW that is correct. When money needs to be spent now, and that is what Congress intends, then giving money to people who will not spend it is stupid and wasteful.

Thus the 'Republican' vs 'Democratic' stimulus bills; stupid vs smart.

wolf,

Are you recommending that the Democrats end the 60 vote closure rule for a simple majority?

OK... As the Approval rating of Congress falls below the level of Pond Scum, and The current occupant of the Oval Office is not far behind...

So wasting more of the Taxpayers money (If Prior Performance is considered) will change all this...

Go for it.
