The Jobs Spin

I want the economy to be improving, but I don't personally see any improvement. All the recent hype is either spin or some form of the truth, I don't know which, but it's refreshing to hear positive comments about the job situation rather than all the negativity we hear all the time.

If we all, and I mean all, thought that things were getting better, they would. If we all had a positive outlook, things would improve, I'm sure of it.

But one thing is for sure - if the improvement is in government jobs and programs, we should all, and I mean all, watch out for the big one -- hyperinflation, I think some people call it.

I looked out my office window the other day, I'm on the 13th floor, and saw construction, but only government buildings and parking garages were being built.

What is the truth? I don't know!

As a college student, this subject obviously interests me greatly. The current state of economic instability is very questionable. One thing that I often wonder is how the restaurant industry seems to be so unaffected. It seems as though every time I go out to eat, whether on campus or off, the restaurants I go to are packed. This may also be from a campus perspective, but it also seems as though many retail stores are hiring as of late. This is probably for the holiday season, but even over the summer of 2009 I noticed a number of retail stores in my area that were hiring. How can these companies afford to hire so many employees in such dire times?

Do you really think all that it will take is positive thinking? How about giving small businesses tax incentives to hire more employees? What if we allowed companies to take bigger deprecition allownaces on their machinery which could spur purchasing new equipment. This hope and change president promised bottom up job growth but gave most of the money to banks and auto companies which is top down. The free market will solve this crisis if it is allowed to function on its own, and that could mean some companies have to fail. Having said that maybe we should all click our heals 3 times and repeat, "I do believe" and then things will get better.

Well, that's (clicking heels..) taking things to the extreme -- I didn't mean to say that the economy will get better with positive thinking alone, but after re-reading my post, I can see that that's how it sounds. I understand economics a bit better than that!

We have what we have and we should try to make the best of it. If we sit around and boo hoo all day, things will for sure not get better. Let's make the best if it, is all I'm saying.

Especially sitting around wishing THIS administration will give out tax incentives to the small businesses is surely living in a fantasy world. We can bitch and moan all we want, but we have to make the best out of a bad situation.

The only positive news that I hear is pure BS from the government propaganda machine which takes facts , slices ,dices, and spices them to create something like those artificial 5 pound " turkey breasts" that they slice sandwiches from in delis .

The "great" un-employment news are due to growth in health and temporary. The former may be due to the vaccine debacle and latter a meagre holiday hiring as most retail has cut to bare bones.

Question also arises - if the Stimulus data has been fudged if the climate warming has been fudged why would the unemployment figures NOT be tampered with ?

This Administration like this Congress cannot distinguish between lies and truth in the pursuit of their agenda.

In response to OldMike I think those of us who are small entrepreneurs are trying to make the best of a bad situation. But the question remains what's the next shoe to drop - the House (I believe) voted to raise the estate taxes for next year. We know we work harder, we pay more taxes and see nothing but more taxes and less opportunities ahead for our children.
