Is today a quilting day?

Photobucket

It is a rainy and cold day, a real good day for sewing or quilting. I was up at 5:30 a.m. [just woke up early] so I decided to piece the back for my Christmas Block quilt. Now that cotton fabric is predicted to increase to about $20 a yard I better make good use of what I already have.

Quilters Passion members are located in different states. Houston is getting an unusual snowstorm. Here in the Carolinas snow is predicted to fall in the mountains and maybe we might get some flurries in Charlotte. Is today's weather facilitating your day to sew or quilt?

I would give the biggest portion of my day to working in on my quilt, but I agreed to meet someone at the Center who has donated 12 almost new computers and will be replacing our many dinosaur age pcs. We are a non-profit and growth is unusually slow and must take advantage of this huge gift?

Hope you all are having a good quilting day. Share if you have a moment.

That's pretty much how things are here. I've been splitting my day between quilting & digitizing.

I had to borrow money to buy a new machine for the business. But my Baby is working so great, i'm using it on the quilt, until i have to retest a design.

Well back to work.

Enjoy your day.

The weather here in South Florida is rainy, so I'm inside piecing away on my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. I finally received my first month of the BOM along with the book, so now I'm making two SBS samplers. One I'm making for me and I'm incorporating some of the blocks from the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt. The quilt for me will have 196 blocks. I've finished eight, lol. I'll be doing that all day and this evening I will take to my bed and watch Milk. I DVR'd it a while ago and it has been sitting in there taking up space. That's it for me. Have fun and keep the piece. Renee

Today is cold and clear here in OH. A friend and I just came back from a juried craft show at the Butler Institute of American Art. There were at least 100 vendors with very nice stuff. Bought a new woven rug for my kitchen. Of course we had lunch and listened to some of the entertainment. Now will quilt fro awhile . Renee, I am still waiting for my first block to arrive. They say they sent them out the day before Thanksgiving. The pony express must have gotten ambushed by Indians on the way to OH!!! How long ago did you get yours? Sandy

Cold and clear in southern Ohio too. I attended an open house at one of the local quilt shops then went on to a JoAnn's super store and picked up a lot of Blue Moon beads in their clearance section. Wish they were closer. I spent more than an hour on the road.

I have the Christmas blocks on my design wall and have been trying this and that. I'll probably start assembling the top tonight and tomorrow.

Had to work so no quilting today. Hopefully tomorrow. Just one more side to sash and then I will be ready to sandwich and quilt something I've been working on for a couple of months.
YIKES! fabric $20 a yard. I surely have plenty to last till my dying day but you never know. Better hit those Christmas sales.

Has cooled off here in Phoenix but I'm certain many of you would love weather in the 60's. Finally had to turn on the heat this morning

Gloomy day here in Maine. My daughter's 41st birthday. We went Christmas shopping and she scored a HUGE savings at the J C Penney sale today, she is a Christmas-a-holic so she was a happy camper. We had a ball and it didn't start to snow until we were almost home. YAY.

Spent the day at the bazaar we have been working on for months. Great turn out and sold lots of things we had sewed, some quilted, some not. It was tiring but rewarding. I am afraid my quilting will slow down now with decorating and baking and also lots of parties. But I have lots of plans for Jan.
I have been stripping lots of material for future projects.

Started snowing here (NJ) around 1:00 yesterday afternoon and was still snowing when I walked the dog at around 7:30. Apparently she really didn't see any snow last year. She was hysterical in the snow and between my laughing and her running on the leash I'm surprised I got home without breaking anything (like my tailbone).

$20 per yard - is someone insane!!?? One of the things that I like about quilting is I can afford it. Those types of prices will put it out of my reach at least at the rate I currently sew. The choice for the manufacturers in my mind is sell more for less or sell less for more. I don't think they'll be able to sell the same amount for more. Which should drive the prices down, at least that's what my basic economics teacher taught me a million years ago. Let's hope we're functioning in a free market. - Debbie

Saturday morning began as a quilting day for me, but had to do other things. I only spent a couple of hours at the Center yesterday, so I could at least come home. I made 3 casseroles of which 2 went in the freezer for future day meals. They were: Turkey Shepherd's Casserole, Turkey, Brown Rice with Mushrooms and an Italian Ziti Casserole, which was last evening's dinner. After dinner I finished reading the The Celtic Stone by Michael Phillips and zonked out.

Today it is really cold for Charlotte - 26 degrees and there is frost on the ground. It is the first frost for the year. Can you believe my Impatiens survived through the first week in December?

I'm planning to spend some time in my sewing studio today. Maybe I can finish the piecing the backing to my quilt and then finish the top for a cuddle quilt. I might have to check out Thousands of Bolts and look at the flannel on sale. It will make a great backing for the cuddle quilt. It will be warm and cuddly for the recipient - a child in the hospital.

What is the reason for the price increase in the cottons again? I just called a fellow quiter and said I would ask. We both laughed about how much stash we have, we can easily not buy anything and spend a nice year quilting in 2010!
