Message 93 of 1493

"This should wake us up."

One day, a man went to visit a church. He got there early,
parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near, the
driver got out and said, 'I always park there! You took my
place!' The visitor went inside for Sunday school, found an
empty seat and sat down. A young lady from the church
approached him and stated, 'That's my seat! You took my
place!' The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude
welcome, but said nothing.

After Sunday school, the visitor went into the sanctuary
and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, '
That's where I always sit! You took my place!' The visitor
was even more troubled by this treatment,
but still He said nothing. Later as the congregation was
praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up,
and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became
visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from
the congregation noticed him and called out,
'What happened to you?'

The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns,
and a tear fell from his eye, 'I took your place.'

You're right, Rooster... sometimes we get so caught up in "church" things that we forget the reason we come together in the first place. It is too much church politics and church games going on and I, for one, am sick of it. Time is too short for us to waste it and miss out on what God has intended for our lives.

This is a good reminder of keeping our priorities straight.

Thanks old rooster I will share this. I have seen this happen at my church. We don't own a seat. We sit where ever there is room. I am so glad you shared this. I will copy this if you don't mind. I think our preacher should read this from the pulpit. There is a quite a lesson in it!

oldrooster, I agree with everyone else. This post is humbling. I will always remember it. We all are creatures of habit. I automatically go to where I usually sit, but Sunday morning there was several people taking up the pew. I smiled at them and sat in the one in front of them. I cannot imagine anyone acting this way, but I know it has happened. I pray I will never be guilty of such a thing.
