We're on a one-way road straight to hell in a handmade basket if you ask me!
I have never agreed with either war and I have sent telegrams to the floor of the senate saying so and I did not believe in the first gulf war either and I sent a telegram about that also...all to my senator...
The grandson of a friend came back from Afghanistan so say that an incursion, if not an invasion, of Pakistan is in the works. They're already doing psych testing for volunteers since they expect 40 percent casualties. Too bad one may not return the Nobel Peace Prize.

I don't think it really matter what this president said, or would have done. I think had he announced a withdrawal, some of the same voices would have condemned him for making the country unsafe. It was a no win decision this president had to make. I give him credit that he made probably the least popular decision. He could have done the most politically favorable alternative. I said some months ago that this president would meet obstacles greater than any other president in history. I also said that greatness is achieved by obstacles overcome. This is just another day in the up and down cycle of this president. Either he will achieve greatness, or he will be the butt end of many jokes for a long time. I'm not happy with the decision he made, but I do understand why he made it. We're on a one way road to hell in a hand basket? Really? Is everyone packed? I'm not.~Smile~
Obama is making decisions that I would pray never to have to make. No matter what the decision he will be condemned by many. Although I do not support the war and feel that we are there because of Bush's malignant and intentional misrepresenstations, I agree with others that the conditions of our withdrawal are significant not only us but to thousands upon thousands of others.
I am disturbed to hear about a possible incursion into Pakistan and I'm sick at the thought of so many of our young men and women being killed or injured in the name of this political charade. The question, which is the same in any war, is what are we going to do about it?

I voted for Obama and I still support him but I am still against the war....as to the withdrawal, I doubt it will happen in the time frame that he has suggested...we kept hearing that in Vietnam...
Actually I don't think he has much of a choice about the withdrawal. I recently heard on Rachells show that our military man power is down to 50,000 still in the US. The 30,000 headed to Afghanistan will leave us with about 16 combat brigades ( 20,000 men ). We would be out of Afghanistan through attrition anyway. That is unless Congress brought back the draft. It's an ugly mess. Vietnam? I doubt it. We just don't have the man power.

I don't think there is much we can do unless we get help from NATO. That would be a difference that the Soviet Union did not enjoy. If it's not a world effort, then it is pointless to proceed.
The time frame was just tagged on to make the left happy.
If you know anything about military ops, the troop build up won't be complete for 12 months...which leaves 6 months to train an Afghan military and police force as well as to make the civilian reforms necessary to get their government "un-corrupted".....AND fight the Taliban?
Strategically impossible.
5 years minimum to even make a dent in what needs to happen over there.
And we will need to commit more troops over that time frame in order to man an invasion force that will need to come in from the Pakistani side of the Afghan border.
Stay tuned...it's only gonna get more hairy over there.
Charles, there is always the draft..I hope to heaven that will not come back but other countries should help, IMO
